Magnetic Boots

Just a quick suggestion for the sound folks. You do such wonderful things with sound, but I have to admit I'm slightly disappointed in the footsteps in the smaller stations with no gravity. Just a nitpick, really, but in my mind I'm always drawn back to "The Expanse" and the way their magnetic boots CLUNK when they walk.

Now I know on that show they also slow walking down quite a bit, but maybe Commanders in the Pilots' Federation never, ever skip a leg day, eh? Point is, maybe turning up the volume on the footsteps when magnetic contact is active could really distinguish those smaller stations from the rotating ones?

I know I'd love it.

That's the only issue you have with 0 G stations ? Not the magnetic bottom everyone seems to have (to use the benches), the magnetic trash, the magnetic random boxes here and there, and the magnetic liquid inside people's glasses in the bar ?

Let's be honest, outside the lack of spinning (only visible from outside), without the "no gravity" warning, we wouldn't have no indication whatsoever that's a 0g installation. It's literally the only thing telling us there is no gravity, everything else only makes sense in a place with gravity.

I honestly think having "clank" sound would break more the immersion than not, at least I can pretend my suit computer is broken and there is gravity.

I don't think you realize the gravity of the situation.

Heavy stuff, indeed. I couldn't count how many things in this game break it's own rules of gravity. If they fix everything in stations then they'd have to fix the shipboard coffeemakers, and that dog just won't hunt. My Krait needs its Mr. Coffee.

Speaking of coffee, there's a reason I used "The Expanse" as an example. The mag boots are there to distract you from the massive amounts of hand-waving they do in that show, like - for example - Holden's own coffee machine.

To be honest I barely notice the drinks - partially because the glasses they were in didn't render until after the first patch. Had to really be looking for them.

Not saying I wouldn't mind an overhaul to those stations; just shooting for something more.... attainable.

Oh I know about the Expanse handwaving, but to be fair, it's very difficult to make something entertaining AND realistic without making it super boring. Not to mention, you don't think of everything, these people never lived in 0g. Also, "fake" 0g is very expensive, it's not like they can send the entire crew and cast in space to film there. Or even using the NASA plane to simulate 0g. So they are in 1g, but act like they aren't. Which is not easy^^
So I just tell my brain to stop nitpicking, and enjoy the show. Works OK. I feel they did a good job nevertheless, like the wound being lethal in 0g, that kind of stuff. They often put details, minor or big, that reminds you that it's 0g, so you can excuse the minor things like the lasagna sticking to the plate and the coffee.

But the 0g station in game have literally nothing that indicate 0g. I would rather have them handwave that completely and not warn me. I would simply forget, like most people, upon entering the concourse. Instead, I'm warned, and immediately my brain check all the anomalies and it's weird.

I think real 0g in stations is a lost cause. In addition to a new motion mechanic (kind of like swimming), it would need a complete redesign of outposts. Think of the way astronauts move and work in the ISS, you can't have open areas because people would end up getting stuck in the middle with no way to move! There are cool ways to do it that would really make this game stand out and allow EVA as well, but I think it means throwing the outpost in the trash. Too much work for EDO at this point.

I would like to see them fix running on planets though. Walking is okay, jumping is believable, but running? Come on, give us some bounding!

We have mag boots to hand wave the whole "fly in 0g" thing. So that's ok. That's pretty much the only one which is^^

Ideally, I'd like to see that too. I feel like asking for stations to completely get rid of anything that should be floating but isn't would just lead to stations looking even more generic than they already are (not criticizing their genericness. They're space stations built from the same template, same as ships.) and a ton of work that would be better spent elsewhere.

Actually giving the player mag boots would help with my immersion, buuuut Erei makes a good point about it breaking it for others.

It's not that mag boots are breaking my immersion, per se, more like they are a reminder. Now, it's not too bad by itself, since the computer already remind you about 0g, so it's too late already for that.
I'm ok with "noisy" grav boot. It's just that I wish the rest was not hand waved hard.
