Maia Thargoid missions

Watched an ED Video last night, a Cmdr was out in Maia hauling Thargoid samples back to various ports in the Pleiades, he seemed to be making around 15 million per run. Am not actually bothered about the cash, decided to make the short trip to Obsidian Orbital and see what's going on. On arrival I receive a msg asking for a few Thargoid samples in exchange for 13 million.

So what is the deal with these missions, is this for some shady government organisation or just random NPC's that can't be bothered to visit the crash sites themselves? The mission text doesn't reveal much.

I know who Palin is, My anti corrosive cargo racks and all my racing ships have been kitted out by him. I am talking about the random missions offering 13 million plus that appear in your inbox when you land at various stations out here. These missions appear to be from a random NPC

I'll screenshot the missions when I get home.

Never heard of those, only ones I know are from Palin, who does offer it at random stations near his home. You wont have to bring it to his engineering base either, just the base where you got it.

Yep if you read the message text, they are for Palin.

The top payers are 23million.

The mission is supposed to appear when you land at Obsidian Orbital.

There was a bug early on that delayed the mission message: the lag caused it to appear at random times while flying, giving the impression it was coming from NPCs. Maybe you are seeing that again.

Nice logic here. All mission payouts nerfed below 500k credits. But here you go, fetch some items 1 jump away 23mil lol I slowly give up on this game

If they're Thargoid biological samples then you have to engage with a Thargoid and use a research limpet to literally tear a chunk off the Thargoid ship. That usually makes it angry, so you need to scoop up the sample and get out if there.

Maybe not 23MCr worth, but definitely rates danger money.

You can get them from the crashed scout.

I'm not being given missions when landing st OA for some reason.

Thargoid technology samples.
Thargoid resin.
Thargoid biological matter.

All freely available from a Crashed Scout Ship site near you. [up]

Are you, by any chance, carrying extra Thargoid stuff?

The other night I noticed that if I tried to stockpile stuff I wouldn't get a new mission issued until I sold it on the black-market.

I wasn't sure if it was a bug or if they were trying to force us to make a journey for each mission.

I was initially. Sold it, flew out, came back, and still no missions.

Stock Piling works, if your lucky.....most of the time I got a mission for what I wasn't carrying occasionaly I didn't have to do the round trip.

I was using a DBX with four 2 tonne corrosive resistant racks (using the ship scoop directly rather than SRV). - filling up with a mixture of the 3 types and hoping to get the next mission that I could complete immediately.

Return station could be Darnells Progress / Mia Point / Obsidian Orbital.

The next mission usually offered after handing in the previous after docking at OO from DP or MP.....or leaving OO (if that was the previous destination) and re-docking. sometimes I had to re-dock 2/3 times to get the next mission. If you delete the mission mail from the inbox, I got exactly the same one offered again. If you decline the message 'X' from inside the mail then a new one is generated.

Edit....No Rep given with local factions although the credits do count towards Trade Rank.

Huh? I've been flying around there since forever and only had two offered to me in total? Is this supposed to be a thing you can just do as often as you want?

I don't know about 'supposed to be' but it works out that way ....you may need to re-dock a couple of times to get it to generate.

I get offered one every time I land at OO.

I am already allied to all the factions at OO so I dunno if that helps.

Thanks everyone, just got home and checked the mission again, no mention of Palin. Anyway, I'll head over to crash site and retrieve the samples.
