Maiden Exploration Voyage

I'm in the final stages of preparation for my first exploratory trip.

I have my ASP kitted with everything except my A5 Frame Shift Drive. I just reached my projected credit range to afford the A drive and feel comfortable with my remaining creds. Sadly my recent home base in G 122-60 only has up to a B5 FSD, so I guess that makes Alioth a great starting point for my trip into the black.

It's time to start checking posts to see how other explorers choose their destinations. I do have to be honest, while I'm checking the integrity of my data storage and waiting for the last of my rations to be loaded onto my Lady, part of me wants to just aim in a direction and see where fate takes me...

I already have my daily theme music for my trip.

Music wise, I would recommend Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon :) Also, I like to mix in some classical (Beethoven is AMAZING - Moonlight Sonata 1st and 3rd movements are wicked).

Good luck out there Sir! Fly Safe!

Just go where you feel like going. Lots of people are heading to the core and Sag A, personally I like to explore the outer arms of the galaxy. You won't make as many credits or find as many exciting things but it is nice. Just watch out for those huge fields of brown dwarfs and plan your routes accordingly so you don't run out of fuel. My current trip has taken me around 7000LY so far and in all that distance I have found only 1 earth like. But, I am not in it for the glory.

If its been said before...I don't really care! Lord Itchybum you need to team up with Itchynipples and make a superhero team of some flavor...yes?

First thing to remember: when she starts the countdown from 4... throttle to zero.
Second thing to remember: do not use your repair unit except for when you are starting up and have just logged in and aren't in supercruise
Third thing to remember: Only push the 'engage frame shift drive' button once at a time - if you drop out of supercruise by accident you can take horrific damage
Fourth thing to remember: Have fun!

Good luck and safe exploring, CMDR!

I usually pick someplace that's within my range, then go into 'realistic' view and zoom out a bit then look for something that seems interesting. I then note the location down and declare that my destination. Last time I did that, I was going to LYSOOF AA-A H1 (take a look at it!) because it looked exceptionally interesting. And it was!!!

How I navigate (since it's more than 1000ly)
- type in the name of your target and hit return; it will zoom the map to it
- mark it
- click on the "current location" and it'll send you back
- left mousedown and scroll until you are aligned with the target, then zoom out a few times and scroll toward the target
- periodically mouse over stuff if it looks interesting until you're hitting stuff 900ly away
- have it navigate you there and start jumping!!
