"Main tank drained!" - not something I wanted to hear…

So this is the story of how I got the "Main tank drained" warning.

Over time I get lazy. Flying an Anaconda with good shields and weapons and nice room for cargo - there is nothing much to fear. So on my last trading trip I was in my standard routine:
Enter station, sell 400t cargo, buy the same 400 t cargo I always buy, enter destination station (3 jumps), lift off, fly out of station, boost to jump point, FSD counts down …

I think: "Wait, I've forgotten something. Light at home is turned off. Payed the last speeding ticket. Hmmm. OH *@'*%§! fuel, this Anaconda needs fuel and the tank is already down to something below 1/2 …"

Ship computer: "FSD engage"

"Nooooooo…"

I find myself at a sun. A quick glance at the fuel gauge tells me enough fuel for the next jump. I won't make it to the destination. The system I'm in only has outposts. Not enough fuel to jump back. I have enough for the next system.
Next system. Almost empty tank. No way I could reach my destination without additional fuel. Just outposts in this system.

I have to do it.

Fuel scooping with a fully loaded Anaconda and a glorious A1 fuel scoop.
Flying an orbit around a sun with an Anaconda is surprisingly not as easy as in a Diamondback Explorer. People complaining about that A4 fuel scoop of the DBX? Try an A1 fuel scoop. It takes forever and a day to get some fuel into the tank of an Anaconda with such a tiny scoop.

After what felt like an eternity circling that sun, always looking if any of the ships gets to interested in me. I decide to jump to the final system.
Exactly after the jump the ship declares "Main tank drained". I docked with 49% reserve.
Just yesterday I thought I could change that silly small fuel scoop back to a 2t rack or a D-scanner. Glad I didn't.

Morale of the story:
Never fly without insurance. Never fly without enough fuel. A A1 fuel scoop might save you from having to pay for insurance or from calling for help.

Why do you fly circles around a star to use the fuel scoop? You only need to keep throttle above zero until the fuel scoop is at or near max, then throttle back to 0. No more circling!

yeah just fly into the atmosphere until you get a decent scoop rate then throttle back to 30ms and read a paper while refuelling. Easy.

If your throttle is 0%, and you get interdicted, it's an auto-submit. Not a problem when your exploring, but it would be shameful to get got by an NPC cobra because you didn't have the gas to run away.

And I thought, I am the biggest noob with a conda. But at least I have a B5 snorkel ;D

Btw. since I made my first trip to Sag A I never let my fuel under 50% any more in unknown paths. Nothing is more odd than changing the root just for a scoopable or running out of it at all ;) But ya, with a conda its not that simple to scoop and fly as with smaller boats - so it eats time...

If I go away from the computer the spaceship will fly in a straight line away from the sun - out of the danger zone.
If I get interdicted I'm already fast enough (usually 0.33c) to get quickly out of the danger zone. I really don't want to drop out of SC to close to a sun and getting heat damage while trying to jump back into SC.

Usually I circle around the suns just because it's the fastest way to fuel scoop. No need to stop and get up to speed again. Just jump into the system, fly close to the sun, point nose up, fly away.

Oh, and for me it's fun. Especially dual or triple sun systems. I guess I have to go exploring again.
