Maintenance server

So I wanted to play Elite today, I started my PS4 and I've got the update 1.06 (almost 16 GB) and when was downloaded after a hour and I started the game, I've got the massage "Server Maintenance" We're sorry, our game servers are currently unavailable...."

I don't have a problem with an update or the server has got a maintenance. I want to know the minute I start my PS4 if and when I can play the game or not. And not wait several hours (of downloading the update) to get a message the server is in maintenance and I can't play the game.

Surely Frontier an Sony can come up with a system to give players a certainty if they can or can't play the game and when they surely can play the game. No now I have to wait for what? for nothing...
Well if time is money, I've lost some today. thank you Frontier and Sony. I hope you've earned your money today :p

Elite Dangerous version 2.4 (PS4 version 1.06) is coming today. Hence why it's down.

Not sure how Sony does it on PS4 but on the PC launcher there's a "Support Notice" at the top which for the past 3-4 weeks had been saying "2.4 beta now available" and then "2.4 beta finished" which led to the conclusion the update was due soon. The link took you to the forums and this was posted yesterday: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ous-2-4-The-Return-Server-Downtime-(26-09-17)
Which confirmed approx 9 hours of server downtime.

The exact date of the update was made available and spread on reddit/here and a few other places last week Thursday during a livestream.

So I guess the "Notice" depends entirely on how active in the community you are, PS4 players also have no experience of patch days, the PC and xbox crowd are well seasoned, back in the day there were sometimes 10+ hour patch windows so anytime an update day is announced we pretty much write it off, servers can be screwy for a few days after too, especially the weekend, usually depends if a whole bunch of players that haven't played in a while decide to come and see the new goodies or not.

As for the future I personally have no idea how the PS4 launcher does it, if there's a section where Frontier could relatively easily and quickly update some text to let the PS4 players know then I guess they could/should put a bit of text in there as a warning. I doubt it's that easy though. PC it's a bit easier as you can watch for when the launcher is advertising a beta and then investigate the exact date of the release.

Silver linings - you'll be all set to go for when its back up and there will be new stuff!

OP, it's been know for over a week that today was going be a blackout day for ED. If you like the game keep up with it's news....

Your not suggesting that anyone and everyone playing ED has and or is pc savy are ya. I'd concure the reason one buys the console is because they don't have a pc. Personally, until I happened across this forum, which is the first and only forum I aquait myself with, have never heard about reddit nor cared of it's possible existence. Until recently, one has never even needed an internet connection to play on a console. Might be OP what ever that means, might be such a person.

The PS4 just starts the game from the PlayStation home screen, there is no launcher. There is, however, the option of changing the Elite main menu message ahead of the downtime to ensure commanders are made aware of potential interruptions and/or updates. It's something we can consider for future updates.

Going to watch an episode of Tales Of The Unexpected whilst I wait. The music and silhouette figure of that woman dancing I the flames was iconic. :D

That would be nice, THANK YOU!
