For some reason i have also always thought that it was a mobile base.
Problem is that it runs counter to "it is in a dark system with eight planets orbiting a gas giant".
Mr. Braben himself confirmed that it is in the game and Brookes confirmed it can be found by anyone and is not random.
Anyone who thinks raxxla isn't real clearly missed the "It (raxxla) is in the game and we know where, we also know why it has not been found".
Someone somewhat recently made a quite informative post about the statements which i of course can't find right now.
One theory I had is that the star itself isn't visible in the galaxy map, but can be selected if you scroll around on the map and just happen to scroll into the right area. If you jump then, you can enter the system.
That would fit with all real and rumoured statements from FD as to its existence but also explains why its so hard to find. Its a bit harder to fit with the idea that someone has scooped the star, but maybe the person (or people) who entered the system didn't realize they had selected an invisible system nor its significance. They may not even know Raxxla is a special system. Not everyone who plays ED knows the lore.
Alternately, maybe in the early days of the route plotter it could actually select the system as part of the plot, so one or more person actually routed through it without realizing they were in a special system (remember, back then, exploration was basically jump and honk)... hell, it could have been any of us who did it. When FD got an alert someone had entered the system, they realized what had happened, and patched the route plotter as soon as they could.
Yes i was made aware of the context of all the statements in another thread; the point wrt the wheel being somewhere "dark" and raxxla being confirmed still stands.
I am certain that the two magellan clouds on the launcher and the literal clues in the codex about raxxla are something that need deciphering.
"Mother" of galaxies could just as well be "Cobra", as in Serpens.
