There are 3 major powers. Empire, Federation, and Independent systems. Weapons are the most visible on ships, but I would extend this to, other modules, suits, hand weapons, and srv's.
So each power seems to have "Legendary" items they offer based on the player's standing with them. That is cool and I wish that was expanded, however on a basic level it would be nice for each to have their own "Brands".
Each would have their own distinct aesthetic, strengths, weaknesses, and even types. A player can mix and match or just kit out completely with one faction.
Ex:
Empire would have items that would be sleek and "high tech" looking. They would focus mostly on beam lasers and plasma weapons that are very powerful, use a lot of power, be light weight, but a average durability.
Federation: Focus on rail guns, missiles, and burst lasers. They are very powerful, they would have a boxy look, heavy, and very durable. Power usage is average.
Independent: Focus on pulse lasers, machine guns, and cannons. They would have a somewhat improvised look and would be extremely efficient, low durability, and average damage.
These traits could be extended to other modules. I would even add discounts to players based on their standing. I would even have ships that require a faction standing to purchase have affinities towards modules from their faction.
