Major Quandry...

Yes, something better is always just down the road... Until something concrete shows up it is just more rumors. I've found over the years that if you always wait for the next best thing you either can't afford it or it really doesn't work with your setup/reality.

People told me that I shouldn't buy a 144hz, Gsync monitor or with one with a TN pane or 1080p. I did, and for the last 2 years I've been enjoying it. Playing FPS games is awesome on it.

Now that I play other games I decided I wanted either a better monitor or VR. VR is what won.

As far as a better GPU, I will likely pickup a GTX 1080. But, I'm hoping I can stretch it out couple of month because, you know, something better is coming...

I think you're right, and you're doing the right thing. There's always something better. But there's always a point in the master race where you have to jump in. And it seems this past week the VR master race bandwagon has filled to the brim!

Mine will be arriving Tuesday, I can't wait!

excellent. TBH if you have never used VR before, any of the major players is an eye opener imo. its not perfect, there will be hiccups along the way and 10 years from now these current units will seem rubbish.... but even so imo this is the biggest evolution of gaming since the playstation 1 bought arcade level 3D gaming into the home.

and that is without even considering the potential for none gaming stuff.

I started my modern VR journey with a GTX 670 and a DK2. the GTX670 was hugely underspecced really for elite in VR but it was still an order of magnitude more enjoyable than gaming on my giant flat screen. I think a gtx970 is fine. of course more is better :D

Really excited for you. I doubt you'll regret it, the Rift is awesome and I happily used mine for months with a GTX 970 (this was pre-ASW too) until an unexpected work bonus got turned into a GTX 1080.

Enjoy! (and write back to let us know how you get on).

Thanks Mike, I think I'll be ok for now, I'm not too bothered by the jaggies so I think it will be ok for a while.

I have a big check coming and am very tempted to get the 1080 but if rumors are right, the 1180 (or 2080 as it has been rumored) should be coming out end of 1st quarter next year so I'm not too eager to upgrade but I will know soon enough.

I remember Quandry when he was just (a) Private.

Wasn't that back when Christ was a corporal? Talk about promotions!
