The nostalgia factor is strong with this game. But i'd say let the past rest, this is a new, modern game. We don't need all those old ships, let us have new, great and shiny ones! (though seeing the chieftain/crusader/challenger i'm not sure current devs/designers can give us great and shiny ships....)
YES! Kids today don't know they are born. In those days there was no forum to go whine for a hotfix. You had to take your (self inflicted) hull damage like a real man/woman/small furry creature from Alpha Centauri.

, FDev has already proven when they make up a design the copy and paste it and call it 'new', seeing some life brought back with more diverse designs would be very nice indeed (ships like the Gecko would be very unique!) Every time any Chieftain ship is mentioned it gives me a slight chill, Challenger can be justified a bit, but the Crusader was perhaps the laziest design decision second to the recent "Advanced" Multi cannons that look, sound and perform the EXACT same as regular ones..
I haven't played the earlier games, so I don't know anything about the old ships. I just want more variety in the current market.
Before Elite Dangerous there were a lot of other ships. The Frontier Devs have a lot of options.
Maybe a pink Boa in honor of Warren Burch, a programmer for Arc Elite. He hated the color.

Nah.... Some of the older ships make no sense, and have no relevance to ED at all.
And besides, some of the current ships are translations or iterations of those original ships.
We can have the original ships added to ED translated in name, shape and spirit perhaps.... but not in terms of mass or equipment probably.
Like what they did with the Eagle, Cobra, Viper and Krait. Nicely done.

I feel you. But several decades ago when the Elite games were DOS (not Windows) I could install a plasma accelerator and a 5,000LY jump range on an Eagle Mk II. I miss those days as well as the beauty of the Eagle MK II. Hacking the game after figuring it all out made the game twice as fun. Alas with servers and "balance" we will never see this again.

I think that's what they translated the Eagle and iEagle too right?
The iEagle appears to be the Mk3.
Would love to have the old Imp Courier translated into a medium/large ship with those rotating nacelles attached to the stealth fighter shaped body though.

The Eagle Mk III had those tubes on the wing which I never aesthetically liked. But the Devs did a nice job upgrading the Eagle to ED.
I also loved the original Imp Courier and hope the Devs get around to a medium pad Empire ship say competing with the Python.
Then again most of these Frontier programmers are young and don't have a clue who the Beatles were much less the history of the Elite games.,
