make a normal fuel indicator

why does it look like some kind of flawed strip? it would be nice to make it in the form of normal usual numbers, at least in the right menu in the ship section in the statistics subsection (for example)

if it is and I just don’t notice it, then I'm sorry

Because they all have different fuel tank sizes, its probably easier to show how much youre using and how much is left.

The beluga can have nearly 500 tons of fuel, some ships more because of their class 8 slots. That would be a nightmare to work out i imagine

The trouble with this being displayed as a number is that the way it is drained isn't consistent. Normal flight, supercruise and flying with deployed hardpoints all have different rates of drain. How things are at the moment is probably also the most straightforward way of seeing how much fuel you burn in a jump.

'Normal numbers'? like in cars? ;)

You can always get it out of the journals if you really want, but .. nah
Nah?
Yeah!
As you can see, displaying a number is extremly easy and doesn't have any downside. Never understood why your fuel amount is only displayed in outfitting

The fuel remaining indicator has never been an issue for me, I have never felt the need to know how many tonnes I have as a numerical value, only that I have enough for the next jump etc.

A shield percentage like we see in the SRV turret, now that would be handy :)

Are you trying to manage how many light years you have? There a problem with this. Shorter jump range equal to longer LY. Just like in cars.

On flat land, you can travel a longer distance than if you drive up a mountain because it requires more fuel to go uphill. Or speed is a factor faster you go the more fuel you use.

I don't see having an fuel indicator if it not accurate.

At the moment for any given jump I can see how much fuel I am going to use and how much I have left. It's an instant, "at a glance" assessment. Having a number there which I then have to interpret to decide whether I need to change destination to refuel is less than optimal. Sure if you have a 500 ton fuel tank and 30ly jump range it might be ok, but I have a small tank and a 65ly+ jump range, it's essential that I can see immediately what I have now and what I will have left after the next jump, which is exactly what the current setup tells me. It gives me all the information I need at a glance without having to work out numbers.

So your readout doesn't tell me how much fuel I am going to use for my next jump or how much fuel I will have left after my next jump, both essential details necessary for exploring at the edge of the galaxy with a long jump range and small tank. The current one is far superior in every way.

Have a look at the Roll panel, the % shields is displayed there.

My car Just has an F at the top of the gauge an E at the bottom & a needle that starts at one end & ends up at the other - I know I need to refuel before it reaches the latter.

I don't really think a fuel gauge needs to show any more than that.

Regardless of the size of the fuel tank, the only place where the % fuel is marked is in advanced maintenance/refueling and of course it is not necessary, but some of us want to have all possible ship information, why not?

The main reason I wanted the fuel amount displayed is simply to compare it to the 'standby-consumption'
My hud tells me I use 1.74 t/h. Okay. So how long will that last?
I need to know how much I have to calculate that

Fuel burn is displayed digitally, absolutely no reason why fuel remaining shouldn't display digitally in tonnes. One of my pet peeves with the HUD, fortunately, I have programmed Voice attack to read out fuel remaining in tonnes.

It is a terrible design, get EDDI, it will provide you with accurate figures.

actually I don't think that number references tons. it references tanks. afaik there is no precise way to know what that is. on the sidewinder where you can see it most easily that works out to 6.5 tanks. that's about .31 of a fuel tank ton. so if you're reading 1.74 an hr it means you're using 1.74 tanks an hr which means .54 t an hour.
