Make a "Not-So-Exotic" pack

So, something I've noticed is that a bunch if players, including me, would love common animals, like raccoons or deer.
But there's the other group that doesn't want them; they want more exotic species.

This thread is to design a pack containing relatively common/"boring-looking" animals.

Choose any format you'd like, of course.

Pack 1
  1. White-tailed deer
  2. Wild boar
  3. Raccoon
  4. Red fox
  5. Greater roadrunner
  6. Eurasian badger
  7. American black bear
  8. Copperhead (E)

Pack 2
  1. Fallow deer
  2. Wild boar
  3. Raccoon
  4. American black bear
  5. Copperhead (E)
  6. Theme: Faux pieces, like the aquatic pack, but revolved around deserts and temperate forests

What's an ASCO?
It is the Asian small clawed otter which I never would call boring by the way. In my local Zoo it is always a Highlight to come to this enclosure. These are always very mobile and so sweet animals.

My pack with "Boring animals":
Wild boar
Marten
Racoon
Red Deer
Red Fox
Eurasian Hare
European Badger

I define the word boring with "used to see".
Because I think the definition of a boring animal often depends on where you are living. I would not have anything against one of these animals and most of them would allow me to make a German Wildpark area.

I definitely fall into the group that wants "exotic" animals, mostly. But what is exotic to one would not necessarily be to others, based on locale. Many Southeastern Americans consider Coyotes to be common (and pests oftentimes), and consider an Asian Small Clawed Otter to be exotic. In Southeast Asia the reverse is likely true. That said....I'll try to keep it as non-exotic in generalities based on locale.

Coyote - I use this as an example but I actually do want them in the game. They've made my meta list submission every time. Of course, I do love my canids.
European Badger - I know American Badgers are common but would prefer the European Badger. I would think they're probably fairly common over there. Though I don't think either one is "you see one every day" type of animals.
Emu - Fairly certain Emu are common in Australia. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. Unlike most of the rest on the list I'd still consider them exotic.
Raccoon - You may not see them very often here in the states but you know they're around.
Red Fox - much like the Raccoon, you don't actually see them very often since they're fairly shy, but you know they're all over the place.
Indian Grey Mongoose - I think outside of Meerkats this may be the most "common" of the Mongoose family, at least within its respective range.

I really wanted to include an African animal but needed the help of google. Of course, everything it brings back for lists of common/widespread animals is the standard - popular/iconic animals, no I don't think elephants and lions are "common" google. No help at all. The best I could come up with were the black back jackal and the honey badger, and we already have two canids and badger on the list. And I refuse to put the White Tailed Deer on there, mainly because I do see them almost every day.

Therefore the 7th habitat animal I decided to include is:

Capybara - yes. The most wanted animal on the meta list is, for it's region, one of the more common animals as well. There are nearly 1.5 million capybara in the world - European Badger population in 2018 was estimated at about 560,000 (of course, there's a big difference in the size of their range!) They can be seen as being both common and exotic! Truly, is there any list the Capybara cannot be worked into?

Exhibit animal - quite a lot of choices. How about the black mamba for some African representation.

Of course, if we wanted to go really common, we'd have a list of mice and squirrels.

It all depends on where you're standing, right? These might be common to me, but I'm certain there are parts of the world where they're seen as exotic.

1. Brown squirrel
2. Common myna bird
3. European rabbit
4. American black bear
5. Mallard duck
6. White tailled deer
7. Racoon

I would love to see a completely unnecessary pack that just doubles down on increasingly mundane North American species. Seriously, something like this would take my local species zoos to the next level:
  • Coyote
  • Bobcat
  • White-tailed deer
  • Raccoon
  • American black bear
  • Striped skunk
  • Gray fox
Nobody's heads would be turned by this pack. This pack would please no one aside from those that specifically want to create a truly diverse, North American exclusive zoo. But I'd love it. Aside from the raccoon, all of these species are kept at between 1 and 3 proper nearby-ish (within a few hours' drive) zoos that focus heavily if not exclusively on local fauna.

I would absolutely love this. Could be a nice Opportunity to add a Duck, Rabbit and another Deer to the Game (hopefully one that's suitable for walk through Enclosures because I need it for one of my Zoos). I assume the Red Fox or Grey Fox (if it isn't too cool for it because they can climb on Trees) might also fit into this kind of Pack. Would also like to have a domesticated Goat but I'd prefer to get a proper Petting Zoo Pack with it. The Exhibit Animal could be a Species of Banana Slug (I think they are relatively cool but I assume for Americans they are as interesting as European Slugs are for People where I live)

Best pack so far, in my opinion

A pack for my home state of Pennsylvania and semi-inspired by the nearby ZooAmerica:

1. White-tailed deer
2. American black bear
3. North American river otter
4. Common raccoon
5. Groundhog (we're the home of Punxutawney Phil!)
6. North American porcupine
7. Wild turkey
8. Copperhead (exhibit)
White tailed Deer, Raccoon, Groundhog (even though I'd prefer the Alpine Marmot) and Wild Turkey? Give me that Pack immediately 😍

Not-so-exotic animal pack. Tried to make it very diverse and with animals from all over the world! It ended up becoming a pack I would instantly buy! ❤️ I looked at it this way: if you live in various parts of the world, which animal would be very common for you? I excluded Africa because we already have tons of African animals. And by including animals from different areas, I got around the 'not exotic depends on where you live'. This pack would therefore still offer exotic animals for most people :) For instance, as a European, skunks and raccoons and armadillos and emus and rhesus monkeys are exotic animals to me.

1. Emu. The plain Australian ground bird.
2. Rhesus monkey. Super common and adaptable Asian monkeys, also used a lot in (controversial) research facilities.
3. Wild boar. The common wild ancestor of modern pigs found all over Eurasia and introduced in North America, considered a pest in some parts of the world. Big historical presence in European culture.
4. Striped skunk. The famously stinky North American fellow.
5. Raccoon. Funny and inquisitive fellows from North America, invasive pests in some parts of the world. Hate them, or love them, or love to hate them.
6. Nine-banded armadillo. Cute common roadkill of Central America, and edible too.
7. Common fallow deer. Originally from the Middle East, now found all over the world, very common in captivity. Not historically important in European culture like the red deer, but a very pretty plain deer species that is at home in most environments.
8. Red squirrel. Tree squirrels live all over the world (except Australia) and the red squirrel is the most common species.

what we see here people is a near perfect urban pack. Idk about the emu, but these are all animals that tend to live in or near citys

Great choices! I would love such a pack.

Didn't think about it that way, but you're right!
