Make contributing to powerplay more rewarding

I recently started actually contributing to powerplay. I think when we're expanding I can generally make 300 merits an hour in crime sweeps for A Lavigny-Duval (bask in her greatness). Obviously people with more resources at their disposal can do this faster. I saw a report of an anaconda doing it in 9 hours

Obviously if there are no crime sweeps than I can currently make 30 merits per hour if I'm strict with my timings, or more if I spend a hilariously imbalanced amount of money

Now, some rough maths: that means for me:

33.3 hours to reach rating 5, roughly 16 hours to stay there per week

5 hours to reach rating 4, roughly 2.5 hours a week to stay there

Now, I'd be pretty embarassed if I couldn't make 1 million an hour bounty hunting and as this is something I have to maintain on a weekly basis, I don't really see much point in doing it.

On top of that for being pledged I get interdicted far more often, meaning wasted bullets, potentially wasted repair work and worst of all, wasted time.

I'm considerably better off maintaining 100 merits as I can easily do this, and it makes my bounties considerably more valuable, even if Lavigny is doing poorly in powerplay.

The only reason I can see to do powerplay is some sort of role-playing based pride in your power, and to get the power specific gear.

Honestly, why bother going for higher ranks when this is such a waste of time?

Maybe the decay should be less
or the salary should be better
Or maybe maintaining ranking should give you an amount of XP in your empire/alliance/federation navy rank.

Anything, just please give me a reason to do it.

I'm assuming you are carrying supplies to systems?

Try out undermining instead, one kill gives 30 merits and all enemy powerplay npc's gives merits when you undermine.

If you wing up the spawns are increased and you have much better chances of getting wings of them.
