Make Fuel price increase whenever someone refuels, and go down whenever someone sells Hydrogen Fuel.

In normal circumstances, this would have virtually no effect, because stations generate fuel at a rapid rate, but in special cases, like Community Goals, you could end up with fuel shortages, leading to profitable trade routes, and a more authentic-feeling galaxy.

Shouldn't that apply to everything? And NPCs trade too so player impact would be negligible.

Yeah, but most commodities aren't used up by players, so it would still end up being arbitrary, just a more complex arbitrary.

Fuel, on the other hand, IS used up by players, so it can actually be realistic. It would be similar to what's happened to Tritium prices in Colonia, which I think is a great thing!

How much fuel do we actually use that is not scooped? I almost never even bother to refuel at stations. I just scoop at my first jump. I guess in edge situations where you are making 2-4 jump round trips you could forgo a scoop for added cargo/passenger space and refuel at stations, but that would be the exceptions rather than the rule.
A more alive economy would not hurt the game though.

Depends on what builds you're using. Most combat builds don't bother with fuel scoops, since they need to reload long before they run out of fuel.

Even so, the per-player consumption would be somewhat low, but get hundreds or thousands of players in the same spot and things will add up pretty quickly.

Been a PS4 Cmdr I missed the early Elite days when ammo/fuel/repairs actually cost a tangible amount of credits.

Sadly, with the insane credit bloat of the last few years the only Cmdrs this would affect are new ones.

Availability of services would be the fairest way to introduce this. By which I mean a station/FC has the capacity to repair x amount of damage to ships per day or as you suggest only produces y amount of fuel for refuelling.

I'd enjoy this as it would likely for ppl to drop some guardian shield boosters/hrps in order to equip a fuel scoop or repair limpets into their builds and encourage a level of teamwork.

Imagine after a CZ finishes not just resetting it but gathering up while one player performs repairs and another shoots off some fuel limpets to keep everyone combat ready.

My only concern would be would the added immersion and gameplay be worth it after so many years of the current status quo?

Should one be able to harvest hydrogen fuel with a combination of fuel scoop and refinery modules to then sell it on a market?

It would be nice to be able to refuel ship from the containers with hydrogen fuel collected at POI. Not sure if it would be worth the effort though.
