Allow people to directly control the various turrets that are strewn around the settlements.
Either via a small terminal that is located behind the maintenance plate (so you need a mag-cutter to access it, and then either a sufficient clearance level or one of those e-hacks), or from the CMD center, as a secondary interaction possibility where you can turn the turrets off. The CMD center would allow switching between turrets, while you could only control the current turret via direct access.
The turret would be controlled via a remote link, similar to the turret of the SRV, and the CMDR would be stationary while controlling the turret. Taking damage should break the connection.

Why:
- it allows a different approach to ground combat (sneak in, take over turret, decimate opposition)
- defense against spaceships (you probably want to be inside the building for that), currently there is not much you can do against them (and standard handheld weapons should not deal even more damage than now, imo)
- most of the mechanics are already there.
