Make Odyssey base defenses controllable

Allow people to directly control the various turrets that are strewn around the settlements.

Either via a small terminal that is located behind the maintenance plate (so you need a mag-cutter to access it, and then either a sufficient clearance level or one of those e-hacks), or from the CMD center, as a secondary interaction possibility where you can turn the turrets off. The CMD center would allow switching between turrets, while you could only control the current turret via direct access.

The turret would be controlled via a remote link, similar to the turret of the SRV, and the CMDR would be stationary while controlling the turret. Taking damage should break the connection.

Why:
  • it allows a different approach to ground combat (sneak in, take over turret, decimate opposition)
  • defense against spaceships (you probably want to be inside the building for that), currently there is not much you can do against them (and standard handheld weapons should not deal even more damage than now, imo)
  • most of the mechanics are already there.
When? Not at launch! There are more critical things to fix first, but it would be a good addition for the next content patch (after on-foot VR, of course)

i like that,
but how would you avoid a wing of players harrasing a single commander wanting to do his/her ground-mission there?
There has to be some A.I. mechanic to prevent that.

What would be different from a wing of player harrassing a single commander wanting to do his/her ground mission there now?

Both sides have the same options (one side has just 4x as much of it)

Well the difference would be that instead, of the turret helping the lone commander, the gankers have control over it.
It would force even more players into solo.
But i still do like the idea nonetheless

That's already a possibility, they can just hang out and coordinate to gun down other commanders.

There wouldn't need to be AI mechanic but there should be ways to disable the turrets and also to blow them up for the duration of the current session (semi-permanent damage, repairs if all players leave the instance).

In any event, is this really going to be a huge issue in any but starter systems? I rarely see other players and when I do it isn't usually a wing, more normally a single commander hitting my instance. YMMV, of course.
