Make small ships great again!

Wanted to get this idea in before ED season 3, with the hopes of it making the cut for season 3.

So, i'm biased, I love small ships, but apart from the fun of them, there is little practical use once you've been playing a long time and got medium and large ships (no small only docking stations that I know of). Any idea would have to add value to the game and cover the majority factors (such as combat, mission and cash)
here it comes;

Imagine if there was a half broken open mega ship on a planet, just the right size for a small ships to fly around in (a maybe even give that death start, millennium falcon feeling, though the tunnels for the death star). there are many type of mission that could be created.

(possible now) Recovery of cargo or data; not sure how the cargo recovery would work, but data points would be easy enough.

(possible now) kill/remove looters; going into the ship and hunting down pirates

(future) Land and walk around the inside, as a sidewinder buzzes past you head :) and look for secretes hidden in the wreckage.

(future) Rescuing people from a crash site and medical missions.

(interesting) maybe has sensors work different , so that players can hide in place (game reasoning, reactor leak blocking sensors)

(interesting) a new type of combat, more like qcq (i know, not a good thing) but also with the affect of the planets gravity, somewhere for the most expert of pilots to fight.

(interesting) New areas to race the srv :p

So that's just some of the ideas, and once such a system was in game, why not do it with caves... have a cave be and instance to an interior, that way the planet dose not have to map sub terrain. For example;

A man made mine, all industrial around a cave entrance asset. You fly up to it, it has a little bit of a structure to it, looking like it goes into a mountain, as you hit the areas, you enter the instance, or maybe have landing pads outside that take you underground, to explore ... stuff.

I think instancing for ship wrecks and mines would be a good idea, hard to think what troubles it would cause trying to make complicated insides on the surfaces of planets

Added:
I would suggests that these sort of small ship mission are aimed at the experienced player, a real challenge, but.. although accident and death my be more common place, we are talking about smaller ship, so less cost.

So the idea would be difficult mission, with high reward, where skill is the deciding factor and not how big your ship is :p

Even a new player in a small ship could give it ago, and if they have natural skills, they could progress fast... Or seasoned players could take on a new level of challenge... Flying a ship in small spaces and gravity, with drones and other ships (maybe even people later on) firing on them.

Most of those would only be possible when (if) we can get out of the ship and walk around on a planet or in a station. I'd actually love to be able to walk around my ship as well.

about half of it rely on space legs, but with only ships, a lot can be done :)

was thinking a bit more;

about a crashed mega ship, or something bigger.

I guess it would have no power, so you would have a wonderful atmospheric effect of using the ships light, maybe even holes/windows that let the light stream in.

Could make for some epic screen shots and videos :)

Would be fun to have spooky places in elite, derelicts to explore

idk if you know how ther anaconda handles but id love to get out of it and use a small ship but i cant really do anything in them. i always have to go back and get my anaconda to get stuff done in a reasonable time frame. but thats the nature of small. the benefits out weigh the fun unfortunately. i actually took a viper out to bounty hunt like an hour ago and i tried to take on an elite python NPC. it handed me my on a plater because i didnt have the fire power, all i had was speed. and then i remembered why i wanted out of a small ship. every time i got in a fight i had to go back for repair/ re-arm because they are so weak. ship launched fighters are what your asking for, just a ship launched fighter with more customization and game play, which would be nice if they had landing gear and a small cargo bay but then that takes away from thier intended purpose.

To be honest I am the other way inclined. I have not found a use for the larger ships in ED and keep going back to my small ones......

You can do everything in smaller ship that you can do in larger ships. The only thing that I can think of is (obviously) bulk trading and trade GC (if you want to hit high %)

Other than that I can't find a reason to fly a big ship over a small one outside of aesthetics.

I've posted a few times about gameplay involving stealth and ECM/ECCM.

A small ship would very sensibly have a much smaller sensor signature than a medium or large. Not just in terms of dogfighting, but in frameshift maneuvering around in a star system.

Hmmm, larger ships could be losing the lock on smaller ones during fights, kinda like going ninja mode... The smaller, the more often.
