Make the possibility of alien contact be really painful

If it were an alien event it should have concequences for unprovoked attacks by the fool hardy or over confident.

Like say a clear save, then it would really be a force to be reckoned with and not taken lightly.

The mechanic could be something like a data virus removing all traces of you from the weak human infrastructure.

Then you end up in a starter system in a side with the Base line credits....
 
Funny i was thinking of the Destruction of Every Base in the First bubble, Forcing any remaining survivors to start over at jacques.

That would be my punishment for picking my Meta's without asking :)

So how would the rest of you make the alien threat more than just another npc with all the usual stuff.

Yes ships will look different weapons may sound and look different but where will the real menace come from if you die and end up at the same old rebuy screen?

Maybe they could be impervious to all human tech?

Bad idea.

I see no reason why it should be different to getting killed by a usual NPC.

As long as FDev makes the aliens capable enemies there'll be enough people dying and crying in the forum afterwards anyway.
 
Sigh, we can't have major threat to humanity without bunch of players crying in the forum afterwards. I want to feel the wrath of rebuy screen XD

You forgot to add that the first unlucky CMDR to encounter the aliens shall also be subject to a raid on his house by the Navy Seals in the middle of the night. They will kick in your door, break all your windows, and kick you in the nuts. Just to make the first contact with aliens extra painful.

How about if the Aliens had weapons and shields we have never seen before? Something totally different than our weapons and shields? Something that would force us to adjust our weapons and tactics so that fights against the aliens are not easy.
 
Maybe they could kidnap players and jail them into their base, then we have to find a way to escape, maybe board an alien ship to find our own, then travel back to the bubble, it would be an awesome adventure
 
It seems to me that FD is hard at work making the very possibility itself a really painful experience for players...

then there should be an ET like type of alien, so sweet you will cry when you have to let him go back to their planet, I suggest to make aliens of several types, violent devasting everything they come across, scientific, those kidnapping players for experiments, pacifist aliens, those like ET, flying players' bycicles, crashing their ships on planets and getting lost in the wood etc ...

OP's idea is totally wrong, they would basically create a griefing type of alien that will not just overkill players but they will also hack human technologies to erase the player completely from the game, griefing, that's it
 
Just make the Alien race playable, with Overpowered gear and only accessible in Open. To known pvper's.

bad idea but I think alien technologies should be discoverable by players and maybe later we can craft them.

You know, this game is evolving quickly, every new feature evolves the gameplay and has effects on other features, Aliens will add many new gameplay opportunities, once walking and shooter features are released maybe we will be able to board their ships and fly them, maybe steal their technology and replicate it to then craft components with alien technology but I don't think we will get to be aliens, maybe we will be able to wear stuff based on them or have implants and genetic augmentations based on them, just speculating ...
 
Start over after killed by aliens are really bad game design idea ;)
Looking at current gameplay non-combat pilots are already complaining about current NPC...
I think best solution for everybody is to have systems were alien presence is at certain level like current combat zones - LOW/medium/high
so if you are bad at combat do not go to dangerous zones...
