OK, just to start, Frontier got an excellent VA for the ship computer. That calm, nice voice informing me that there's a cabin pressure alert, and atmospherics have failed, is perfect.
Lets hear more of her.
Seriously, one of the easiest ways to up immersion is to include speech. Have the ship computer welcome me when I hop in the cockpit (Good morning/afternoon CMDR, local time is _____. All systems engaged. Reactor nominal). Have it give me a shutdown sequence as I'm logging off (Engines offline, Reactor secure in 3...2..1. CMDR interlink disengaged. Now safe to exit the cockpit.)
Any information you'd print as text on the screen, have it toss a voiceprompt. Random "flavor" readouts of ship status. Damage reports after a battle!
Now, to get super cool, have the ship computer reply to actual player requests. "Ship, damage report!" "Shields offline, thrusters at 50% efficiency, cargo bay ruptured...."
