Make Witchspace more spooky.

So I don't know how much pre-elite lore of witchspace is still accurate. But I remember reading the Dark Wheel Story, where witchspace was this dangerous place, that was also filled with mysteries.

As of now the witchspace is just a loading screen, but FDev already added a single instance of aberration to that system: Hyperdictions. And as I was reading the latest story about people going missing, which might be due to some witchspace anomaly, it got me thinking. Why not fill the witchspace Transition with rare close encounters with that is out there. I am not talking stuff to see, no this would be a great job for the sound-team.

Imagine making a jump, watching the pretty colors, when suddenly you hear a subtle scratching on the hull of your ship, a terrible shriek getting closer to the ship as if something was chasing you or even the sound of something manifesting inside your cockpit slithering and wadding around for a moment. The possibilities are endless. And without space legs, there would be now way to run and hide. So the space madness might consume them.

I would not make it every X jump or so, but rather on very rare occasions and maybe even only in specific sectors.
And if you ever feel like making new encounters or witchspace anomalies, there wouldn't be any complain from me.

One of the rather common features of this forum that I really haven't noticed in other forums is the propensity for conflicting requests. I am not criticizing your suggestion, just bringing this up as a point, it wasn't that long ago that I read a thread requesting the hyperspace jump animation be made less spooky because he didn't like it. It may be simply due to Elite appealing to a wide range of people with different tastes and desires, which is probably a good thing in itself, but as result of that I generally tend to think that changes like that are best left up to FDEV to implement or not as they see fit.
 
A gigantic alien clawed hand, barely illuminated and much bigger than your ship, appears briefly in front of you. You slip between its fingers as the hand closes. All over so fast that you barely saw it.
 
I think the jumps should be scarier. Like we kind of developed the tech without ever really understanding it. I want to get kind of an ominous vibe, sort of like the tunnel scene in willy Wonka but with less obvious images. They could have things like lightning though, and a dark cloud that pursues you sort of like flak that finally reaches your ship the instant before dropping into a system.
 
In the original game witchspace was where you arrived once your hyperspace jump had been interrupted, or interdicted by Thargoids. This was the usual arena where in 1984 one would battle Thargoids. Assuming you won, you would then re-enter hyperspace to complete your journey.

The hyperspace tunnel is not what witchspace used to be. Witchspace is a place outside the normal galaxy. The hyperspace tunnel is and akways was a (form of) loading screen.

I am sorry, but I have to inform you, that you are wrong. Witchspace is just a name for Hyperspace, which was given to it, because it is so spooky + in the times before modern FSD also super dangerous. See the wiki for more information:

Yes!

Smoke patterns and colours and eerie sounds that vary from jump to jump.

Strange silhouetted shapes shifting in the clouds.

Lights turning and twisting as though with minds of their own.

And sometimes, perhaps once in a thousand jumps, a strange anomaly drops out of witchspace along with you and starts following you around.
 
I wouldn't mind it being super creepy, radio screeching distortion, radio interruption that sounds like voices, occasional Thargoid hand to reach across your face only to disappear after dropping out...the usual ;)

disregarding the last part, witchspace is a whole new (dimension?) that we may not be able to perceive with our current senses, be that visually or audibly. and when making anything...audio is 99% of the selling point ;)
