Making friends

Seconded. I've missed so many hails I can't remember. For some reason I only notice them after I SCed out of range.

Also, after a CMDR hails you, you should be able to respond even after you get out of range (while in the same system). When I get hailed in SC I usually lose the contact before I get a chance to bring up the comms panel and respond.

Yep! I agree with this. I've missed loads of messages because I've been concentrating on other things.

I've been voice-hailing commanders pretty much any time I encounter them - unless I've had my hands full at the time. So far I didn't get any answers - I think because (1) the UI is a bit cumbersome (2) not everyone has a headset-mike (3) people are busy and don't have time to respond.

I think that FD intend to add a bunch more features, and we certainly should not consider this to be the finished article. But I'm glad that they've started to develop it now.

The situation could be improved if there was a local-broadcast option rather than having to target to reply to a player. There's often not enough time (esp when in supercruise) to target them and reply before they disappear.

Been getting a few hails, but like others have pointed out it's so easy to miss it and when you eventually notice it's too late. It would be nice if the ship computer would remind you that you're being hailed.

I have set voice attack to issue a couple of generic messages, so every time I see another commander I say "say hi" and voice attack opens the comms channel and types " hi commander, how are you ?"

If I get attacked I say " say insult "
Voice attack then types something slightly less friendly (but amusing) :p

I'd say around one in seven commanders currently reply (usually in super cruise)

The first time I was hailed I had no idea how to respond, so after I docked I checked the options and it seemed there was no key assigned to comms by default (generic joystick).
I haven't been hailed since I set a key up.(That I noticed)

Say hello anyway.

I've also missed lots of incoming messages, makes me feel dumb as well as rude. Reese if you're reading this my apologies for not replying, Commander Khub responds to hails. I did get chatting to one friendly cobra pilot, made the universe seem a little smaller. Once we get some UI options we can maybe get some things set up like chat windows in an MMO. If you see Commander Khub on your travels please say hello.

I actually got messaged yesterday for the first time and had no clue whatsoever as how to respond at first. So by the time i found out i had to target the other player first he was already gone - sorry about that Commander Daniel Hackett! :(
