Making lemonade from lemons?

Not going to go into a lot of detail here 'cos I just thought I'd put the idea out there.....

So, Fleet Carriers are delayed (again) and I suspect a lot of people are going to be left a bit lost in ED for a while.

How about if FDev spent the next month or so coming up with a fairly comprehensive development to the "narrative", implement that in December and use it as a prelude to the actual arrival of Fleet Carriers?

I'm thinking of something like, perhaps, one of the engineers announcing that they've detected spurious signals coming from somewhere in the galaxy.
When they're found, it turns out that there's Generation Ships way out in parts of the galaxy where they're not supposed to be.
It turns out that they've already been given FSD technology and they've found some new element (which will become Carrier fuel) that can supercharge an FSD allow massive ships to jump without the need for the technology Megaships use.
We discover there are a series of surface bases out there, which are all involved in developing the new fuel and modifying current FSD technology.
As more of these ships, and bases, are discovered, the engineers gain a better understanding of how it works and, ultimately, allows the construction of Fleet Carriers which don't require the resources of an entire planet/government to operate.

Set it up so that there's some exploration to find the ships, maybe different factions (supporting different engineers) try to muscle in on the action, thus requiring combat CGs, and maybe there could be a Megaship buzzing around the galaxy, providing a mobile base of operations for whatever it is people are serching for - which, again, might need CGs to support it during it's travels.

Seems like, with a month or so to put it together, a small team could come up with a decent storyline and put the required assets (all pre-existing stuff) in place to get the story rolling before the end of the year.
If FDev need help with this, I know a guy in a hat who could probably be persuaded to lend a hand.

That all sounds great... but... it's not a bug fix is it?

I like where you're going - I've honestly run out of things to do after three years, so something like this would give me a reason to play again, especially if it could be done in a wing.

I imagine there was a planned story already... Probably? Perhaps not as elaborate as you've suggested and that's now been pushed back... Perhaps that even partially relates to the timing here if they were planning a long run in to December from the end of October and that now won't trigger until after December sometime with a run up to March/April sort of time.

Blaze your own trail?

...or is that a bit dated now?

Well, I can only speak for myself but, personally, I was planning to blaze my own trail, out to Colonia in my Carrier with a fleet of ships aboard... and then go and abandon my Carrier somewhere on the far side of the galaxy where it might prove useful to anybody in the region.

With that plan now suspended, my immediate alternatives are to blaze another trail though Skyrim, blaze a trail through the Fallout 76 wasteland or blaze a trail through the KSP solar system.

It might be in FDev's interests to come up with something to retain players in a similar position to me. 🤷‍♂️

I'm trying out a new Mamba build in this CG. Maybe you should take a break for a little while and come back sometime next year?

The idea is to come up with something that might help keep players involved with the game while FDev get on with the work of creating bug-fixes.

The general notion is a good one, but we all know that just ends in an II with the regular grind.
The game itself needs to be fun and keeping you busy, to keep you in, and that is what mechanics do,
there is so much room and depth to increase for every job here.
I'd rather them start concepting that (and finally getting rid of RNG table garbage)
along with a focus on bug fixes.

The gamemechanics still are disconnected from each other, hence creating the sense
of boredom and impactlessness of actions.

I try not to make firm plans for features that don't exist yet.

Hell, I try not to assume that features that already exist will continue to work...problems with the module pane and SLFs have been more disruptive to my gameplay than any feature they could possibly have added would have improved it.

if engineering were the same as guardian i.e. unlock it and stick it on anything, noone would have issues with it.

I'd still have issue with it.

I was actually going to make that point but I was trying to avoid being overly pessimistic. 😕

If FDev are delaying Carriers so they can fix bugs in the game, they've got nothing to worry about.
Carriers are on the shelf, ready to go.

If, OTOH, they've decided that Carriers will be another buggy mess added to the existing buggy mess then, sure, it's probably best to keep quiet until they have a product of merchantable quality.
