Making money has become really hard...

I don't know what the devs changed since beta, but I observed one sure thing... Making money has become really hard.

I know... some have exploited a few stuffs but I didn't and with some research was able to regularly find a few routes where you could make about 1k per ton.... It never lasted long, for the good reason but at least, with a Type 6, you could make 100k per run and expect to get the millions needed to get to the next ship, upgrade it and so on...

Now, it looks like these routes are not there anymore. The most I have found since 1.0 was maybe 600k per run.

It would be ok if the missions were rewarding like they were... They seemed to have been nerfed as well...

Aside from the fact that 90% of the commodities are way too cheap to even be useful in trading (how can you make any profit from a commodity which costs 300CR?)

Now it looks like the only way is to smuggle rare artefacts, military plans, techs or black boxes...

I wanted to be a trader during beta, was able to get a lakon 6 on my way to an asp... but now, I prefer beefing up my cobra and hunt anything wanted...

I am afraid my boringness level is coming soon...

Anyone feels like this?

PS: no trolling here... just wondering if I am missing something

The trade routes are out there just not so easy to find, 750 - 1000 Cr /Tonne is quite achievable with patience and searching.

the DEVs have been tweaking the trading system all week. I really think that they will get it sorted out soon. Last night I found a 977/ton profit one way, and a 575/ton profit for the return trip. It was not hard to do once I got into an area not saturated by players.

I think that the sweet days of Beta are gone, but we will find a new norm that is better than the past few weeks. I complete guess would be a Dev target of 1k/ton each way on a good system, but that is just a guess on my part. We will see over the next few days.

Since the last wipe and the start of Gamma, I have varied my playstyle, and it is working well for me. I too have a kitted out Cobra for mission/bounty hunting, and a Lakon 6 for trade running. I frequently swap between them, depending on my mood for the day;)

With the recent fixes trading is getting back to what it was, it's been getting better day by day. A couple of days ago I was running gold for performance enhancers for about 500/t each way, the same route is now 1500/t for the gold and 1000/t for the enhancers. Works out just shy of 3M/hr in a type 7...

I know they are there. but way more rare than before...

On top of this, the frequency of High Demand is really low compared to beta... Even Medium demand used to mean something, now, it is like Low...

That's reassuring...
Thanks

Try visiting some empire systems off the beaten track, and don't be afraid to travel a bit in supercruise, a lot of the near-star stations are lower on demand and supply, presumably due to more trading. I'm going 2500ls to one of my stations and 20 to the other. I wasn't even looking for this trade route, I switched back from a T7 to an Asp to play around, and noticed the gold being bought at 1000 credits above the galactic average. Had to switch back, this is a damn credit mine! The clipper will be mine shortly!

They exist. Here's a free trade route that makes on average about 800-1000cr/ton round trip. Chemaku - Crampton Port (Load up on Tea or Animal Meat) to Aiabiko - Gooch Terminal (Load up on Marine Equipment) and do that round trip. It's maybe 10 minutes from dock to dock and back. Makes an average of 60k a round trip in a Type 6 with 72 slots. That's not even a good trade route.

To be honest I am glad is becoming harder to make money. Elite should not be sort of game were you are able to buy an Anaconda after a week's normal play (someone with a life outside gaming).

I am sure the game will develop in a way to force you to diverse your activities. Doing trade for the rest of your Elite life is the most boring activity I can imagine...

Having that said I am glad this game is a MMO, as it will keep things interesting in the long run. There is a whole galaxy of possibilities.

You definitely need to get off of the "populated" systems if you want to make some money trading. GT3000 gave you an example of a decent trade run, but it's between Chemaku and Aiabiko. That's a terribly busy PC area.

Get out to fringes of Federation or Imperial space, and you'll start seeing good trade runs. Just have to do some research and move out of populated areas.

Indeed, good trade runs are back. My milk run is netting me about 3000Cr/T round trip in a trader ASP. It was barely 1850Cr/T round trip yesterday.

But I thoroughly scouted a 50-60Ly area a few days ago and kept my notes. If this one dries up, I have 2 or 3 secondary routes already planned. :D

The traffic is low across the board, < 40 ships/24hrs, which seems to make a lot of difference.
