Making money .. just sold Eagle for Hauler

Hi,

Just after some advice from those that have been and done it.

Tonight I celebrated Gamma 2.0 by trading in my free eagle for the Hauler, upgraded the Cargo holds for the 8 bays.

I've found a useful one jump route which nets me 8,000 one way and 4,500 on the return, is this sufficient ? should I be aiming higher ? or is there a *better* way to be doing this.

I do read the bulletin board and occasionally accept a mission (trade only) I'm still doing the combat tutorials as I'm not very good at combat yet and more than happy to trade and get a decent ship before I turn y hand to combat.

NB - Have to say the improvements to the galaxy map are awesome, I really disliked everything about the map pre Gamma 2.0, good job FD

you did well for now, what you have to do later if you want it all is to buy a Cobra, the champion of small ships, until you will have enough to buy a ASP, the champion of medium ships, then you can either keep it, or loose some Jump range to become the ultimate ship, Python

every other ships does not worth loosing time or credit on them, trust me

Many thanks for the reply, always nice to know I'm on the right path, once more confident I can stop asking so many questions.

When i started out, i LOVED the hauler.. something about the interior reminded me about a truck, and thats essentially what i was doing.. Space Truckin!.. I enjoyed it, and went and made a few Million in it, ontop of all my upgrades and everything else.. I then bought myself a Type 9, and well, i made MORE money, faster with bigger hauls, i did not like the ship as much.. something about the cockpit i think.. it was like flying a house with a full bay window..

Then Gama came and I started out back in my SW.. first thing i did was sell the freegal and made enough for my hauler again.. thinking i would be happy until i could afford an ASP.. Then it happened..

I bought a cobra for "fun" just to try it out before release.. and while i dont like flying it as much as my hauler.. the cargo room in it is WAY better, it can defend itself, it can jump further and it just is all around better in almost every aspect. Which makes me a little sad, because i really wanted the hauler to be my goto money making ship :(

Rep for the Deep Purple reference lol

I've been concentrating on combat and will spend more time learning the training soon.

I think I'm ultimately saving for the Cobra (I had one in '84), when i purchased the game I was going to be combat only and a bad ass bounty hunter ...... however, 10 minutes at the controls soon changed my opinion.

for me, a wise decision I think, I'm far more comfortable with the game in general, very glad to have had the Beta / Gamma time to basically learn the game and find the route that best fitted me.

I will become a bad ass bounty hunter ...................... just hope it does not take another 30 years ;-)

The Hauler is truly a White Van Man ship that I feel a guilty pleasure when flying. To make money with it I used the basic scanner and worked up a good load of scans to sell, went to another faction space and sold for a decent profit. Then ran a couple of high paying deliveries with some interdictions earning enough for a decent 4 bin refinery. Now I'm mining specifically for Platinum and Palladium, enjoying the profit and upgrade options. Bonus, wear and tear costs are lower due to the Hauler's size.

I've not experimented with refinery at all, I'll search the forum and find out more, thanks for all the replying, very much appreciated.

Keep doing what your doing but upgrade the cargo to 40t when you get the chance.
Next step would be a Lakon type 6 upgraded to104t cargo to make even more credits.
