Making the Eagle useful - thoughts?

So the general gist of the thread seems to be that it's best for 'gimmick' builds. Somehow I expected that to be the case. Ah well, as I say, CQC might give me an opportunity to enjoy my Eagle once again. :)

maybe once they introduce hangar slots for condas, the eagle, and later the condor will have its use for quick strike forces. (fit the eagle with torpedos and re-fill when docked)

Increase the boost to 400, thats all it needs, but I think all the small ships should boost a min of 400.

I would like to see the max speed and boost speed improve if I mount a larger engine than needed.

To have my max speed reduced if my engine is too weak I get, but not to get a significant boost when making myself lighter is a bit stupid.

By no way wanting to be doubtful of your statement, I would like to see why you think that. If that's true, I'm gonna get my Viper or i'll even buy an Eagle and throw myself into the nearest High RES Site...

I stated that I'm not sure about this. I read it somewhere as a speculation conserning ranking up, makes sense to think it works like that, but I'm not sure&haven't got a proof.

Your laser of choice on top and 2 frag cannons on the bottom are pretty darn fun. Just make sure you get close before unleashing bullet hell.

I'm also of the mind the eagle is fine for where it's at. It's not the best fighter but for it's cost, I could see any military just throwing thousands of these at the enemy instead of a couple condas for the same price. And like what they said before, it could get a huge advantage in atmospheric flight.

1) Athmospheric flight, indeed! Especially, if there migth be atmosphere-only AI-fighters defending ground targets in future expansions that might shred less atmosphere-optimized spaceships.

2) Additionally, it is "known" (more or less) that larger ships like the Anaconda (but hopefully other ships as well) will be able to carry small ships in their hangar at some point in the future. Currently, only the Sidewinder is known as possible candidate for this. I would love, if the Eagle would be possible, too, as its combat value is undoubtful superior to the Sidewinder (but still not OP as a "dinghy").

3) Finally, I am still dreaming of ship-specific modules. This would make a special role possible (or enhance them) for every ship without taking away all the already existing general outfitting possibilities.

The imperial fighter's on that list too.

Not the same thing, but the Orca has some restraints on its internal compartments regarding what can be put where, also the entire passenger update will revolve around this concept I think.

Exactly! So the whole concept is not unknown to ED! Why not extend it to other ships aswell?

I would make sure to only fight ships of the same weight class because if you collide you are a bug on a windshield.

Oh well, thanks anyway. There's only one way to find out: I'm gonna test it tonight.

Max speed keeps increasing as you remove weight...all the way down to half optimal thruster mass.

You need a 60 ton or lighter Eagle with 3A thrusters to see the hull's peak speed...which is only barely possible with one ton of fuel, no weapons, no shields, and all lightest components possible, other than the thrusters themselves.
