I think that's the right way to look at it - I'm not a console gamer because I cant deal with a game controller. I totally suck at controlling any game with one, always have. For games where I'm running around on the ground the trackball and keyboard skills I burned into my brain over extended sessions of multiplayer Doom and Quake are still there, when I'm in flight I always used a stick, even when I was on one of those ancient platforms that didn't have a gameport for an analog stick yet and you could only use a serial-port stick that used the hardware control lines to signal up/down/left/right like a glorified d-pad. Thing is, though, that hardware was made because there were platforms and games that benefited from them. That created the market for the hardware. If spaceflight games like ED are making the kind of resurgence I hope they are, that market will now exist for consoles and somebody will make stuff to fill it.
