Making the most of a break from ED? Try this game.

For anyone who's interested there IS a game out there that can fill the hole left by ED. IF like me you are taking a break until they fix things, take a look at REBEL GALAXY, http://rebel-galaxy.com/ its a really decent game, and follows the same premise the OLD elite had - trade, fight, haul its your choice, and unlike ED it REMEMBERS what you do and things actually have an impact. I'm having a blast interacting with well modeled NPC's and playing through the storyline. Not everyones cup of tea but on gameplay alone it trounces ED.

Lol who's paid you to post here?

I took a look at that game, it's a 2 dimensional strategy game isn't it?

Looks cool, but it's no replacement for ED.

No not a strategy (turn based) its real time and to the scoffers, it WORKS unlike ED at present and I dont really think you are doing yourselves any favors by advertising the fact you are willing to scoff at something you obviously know nothing about. I did NOT say it was a replacement at all, like the title says I like the fact it has a plot and you can follow that or forge your own path. Unlike the more vocal and cerebral-challenged here I am actually quite receptive to trying new things without scoffing and making myself look a special kind of stupid :) Go on, you might just be surprised.

Nice job, OP. I honestly burst out laughing when I read your post:)

You know, laughing at nothing is a sign of mental instability? Thats about all the cred you have after that response.

And again you give me a laugh, cupcake. And once again, not for "nothing." Credibility? Says the guy promoting a different game on the official ED forum?

Have fun playing Rebel Galaxy. I have it in my Steam Library. Not a bad little time waster if you want a game to spend 1-6 hours with it IMO, but just because it's set in "space" doesn't make it comparable to ED. Being set in space is exactly where the similarities end between the two games.

Really? Ok lets go through this slowly so ytou can keep up.

1) It has the SAME format as Elite, as in you have a ship (which you can change) same as Elite.
2) An open play area (populated with stations, nebulae and star systems) just like elite.
3) Stations have a bar, shipyard and mission boards (some stations are owned by factions or are guild owned by merc/merchants etc) like Elite./
4) You have a choice as to what type of gameplay you prefer, combat or piracy/trade (has a nice scanner feature where you can scan ships and see what its cargo and loadout is, just like Elite.
5) Factions are an important part of Rebel Galaxy, increased standing (which can be increased or decreased dependent on mission type)can gain you access to gear and specialized ships, just like Elite....

I could go on, so you see you are very wrong, BADLY WRONG.

I could relate ED to Skyrim, doesn't mean their similar games.

Elite differs from Rebel Galaxy where it matters most. That is how the game plays, and how the game feels.

The fact that the game is played entirely in first person, in the cockpit is a big one.
Elite has a serious tone, and tries to maintain some semblance of Scientific Accuracy.

Besides the differences, I wouldn't try playing a space game while on a break from space games. Playing another space game would just make me want to play Elite.
I actually tried reinstalling X-Rebirth, but I haven't even started it up.

Games I would recommend playing while on break from Elite? Metal Gear Solid 5, Fallout 4, and The Witcher 3.

Rebel Galaxy is a lighthearted, accessible and pretty cool little space game every fan of the genre should have in their archive.

It's not a competitor to ED nor does it have the ambition to.

What a bad way to disrespect both ED and Rebel Galaxy by trying to force-compare them in a sarcastic thread just to be taking a jab at ED.

Rebel Galaxy's a nice game - but seriously? Comparing it to ED? That's like comparing ED to FTL or Freelancer. Sure, they're all space games, but not really in the same genre.

FTL isn't, but Freelancer is absolutely in the same genre as ED.
