mamaba and gecko?

i guess they never denied it, but said somewhere that it wasnt on their list.

they might return.

there will be 20 ships ingame with the upcoming 1.3,,,, if i recall they said they would do an extra 5 or so after launch ?

since 20 ships was the minimum they had to make... i guess it means 5 more

15 at launch. 25 in game at some point (Kickstarter goal) and then five additional ships after that including the free one for Backers.

I believe the krait it coming soon(ish) due it being mentioned in some of the elite dangerous books

You could be right, but David Braben is on record saying that the Krait wasn't on the list of ships. However, this was before the additional five ships were announced so it could well be one of them.

Off topic kinda but the general idea I'm seeing is that we're supposed to have 30 ships before the first paid DLC?

I don't know if they ever said that. They have never really put any kind of date on it.

I'm pretty sure we won't have to pay real cash for any of the 30 ships though.

A lot of CMR's seem really interested in the extremely small and agile Krait fighter. As I understand it they have no FSD and are a ''Battle Zone'' fighting ship without no equal, certainly the rozzers flying them around stations are very maneuverable, I bet they have little or no shields but as a ''throwaway'' fighter I would be interested in buying a few at a war zone just to fly something that tiny and quick for a while.
I imagine the chances of a ''red-out'' because of the ''G's'' like in the Viper are much more likely in a tiny Krait too. Sign me up for 3 or 4 and I will park them in my Anaconda's 128 ton bay stacked on top of each other, then use them as drone fighters and send them out to do my evil bidding........I could call them minions....:D
EDIT.....was the Viper faster than the Mamba chaps...? I can remember the shape of the Mamba but that's about it, nothing else. Surely the Krait would be the smallest of the 3 ships...Gecko..Mamba...Krait yea..?

To refresh everyones memory here is what elite-wiki (alioth.net) says about the Mamba (iirc it's from the original manual):

I guess with today's graphics possibilities the ship could look about like this:

563266501_ccf4700868_n.jpg

Maybe with a bit more pointed bow section.

Since it originated from a racing design it should be small (about the size of a sidewinder) and very fast, even faster than a Cobra, but poorly armed (single small hardpoint). This should result in a hit-and-run tactic when attacking other ships with it: closing the distance to the opposing ship very quickly, fire a salvo and then gaining some distance again before being hit.

There can never be enough diversity to enrich the ED-Universe, not only when it comes to different types of ships.

Although it's understandable that the designers at FD like to introduce some completely new ships to the game (it's their job to invent something new rather than redesign something that already exists), you can hardly deny that the craft from the original game where brilliant in the first place. Hopefully we will see more of these classics in the future, including the Mamba.

Pleeeaaaaaaase stop asking for more throwaway ships, haven't you got enough with the 32k Sidewinder? The Eagle? The Viper? They're agile as a flies, and cheap as pie. We need more of the big ones! 12 months down the line, when everybody has 4 Anacondas parked around the galaxy, we'll ask for more money sinks and expensive ships, not for ships that you use as rented cars to get to the real ships parked away.

I don't need any new ships. I will keep my python.

Panther, Boa. those are the big boys coming + the Fed Corvette.

Expansions will bring colonies and then i can see player owned outposts and private colony building.... you will get your money sinks. don't worry.

30 ships are planned (and 1 free in the game (among the five last) for the backers and Mercenary Edition). But before or after the first paid DLC, only, Frontier knows
