Mamba Heat Fixed, But Now It's Slower?

Great job on fixing the heat Frontier. Seriously.

But the ship actually got slower, and it's supposed to be a "Prototype Racing Ship". It should be faster than pretty much everything else out there around it's size. (Obviously not talking about as compared to the Courier or small ships).

It either needs size 6 Thrusters or a small adjustment to it's mass/weight.

With a typical Prismatic Meta build it now boosts to about 587, down from 594.

I think we'd all like to see that over 600 at least, and ideally around 620-630 to set it apart as the "fastest ship" (a Meta Clipper boosts between 605-615).

Two steps forward, one back I guess. Glad it's still in Beta....

Edit: Apparently it also takes about twice the ENG Cap energy to Boost. This is more like 1 Step Forward 2 Back in that case....

Edit 2: Confirmed, with 4 Pips it used to take 20-25% ENG Cap to Boost, now it takes around 50%.

Yeah, I know I am really hoping for the sun, moon and the stars...
Size 6 thrusters sound really good...and seem to make alot of sense... (same with alot of the premise in option 2)

I'd love to have 9 or so internal small compartments... something different than the FDL optional internals..
Just to allow creativity in setups and some uses in a non-cargo focused multi-role

Hmm. I haven't been in the beta since the patch. But if this is true, it's not good news for the Mamba.
.
I mean, the boost using more energy is actually reasonable. I would expect that both Kraits got the same treatment. Their boost cost just were too low. (I will miss being able to boost more than once, without putting energy on engines in between, but I see how this is a balancing problem, when comparing it to other ships. )
.
The reduction of top speed, though... it's a bit of mixed feelings. On one hand, when considering that I like small ships a lot, I find that fast medium ships are a bit poaching in small ships territory, while having other advantages.
.
Yes, I know that 600 m/s is still well below what my Courier can do. But really, at least for me as PvE focused pilot, the 600 m/s is a good target post. It's awesome to have that, while extra over that seem to be of limited advantage to me. That's fully out of my guts, of course, there's no empirical data available on how good/bad more speed feels to me. :D
.
Still, the Mamba pays for that by turning a bit worse. During my testing, I was able to compensate for that by boosting a lot. But if boost cost are raised, that way of compensation gets much harder. So I think the Mamba actually should keep its edge in terms of speed.
.
Of course, that's now only based on the info given here, without having my hands on the new version of the Mamba yet.

agree with OP, sad to see it with less speed that before the patch... lots of feedback in beta feedback thread asked for a little buff in speed and frontier did the opposite

They buffed the pitch capability of the ship, but to be honest i prefer the old mamba pre patch flying feeling (boost boost boost :D ) I think before the patch the mamba had a really special feeling, after the patch it loose it.

Agree the speed needs a slight buff or at least the nerf needs to be taken back.

With the terrible hardpoint placement for fixed it needs some advantage over FdL etc. to be usable.

Yeah they didn't need to nerf this aspect of the ship.

Just reduce the heat and decrease the mass base value.

Instead it seems they overthought it and tweaked to much to try to "balance" it.

Edit: We didn't need an FDL Clone. The maneuverability was fine, as long as it had more speed.

Oki. That might indeed save the ship for me. While I found the ship very unique and while some people loved it in the previous version, I already concluded to not get it in the life version. While I was able to work with its unique quirks, I didn't like it too much.
.
But if that turns in onto just another FDL, with different cockpit and slightly different hardpoint combination, then it's a loss. While not being of my preference, it was unique and had its fanbase.
.
Alas, all the more reason to see if I can find some time soon (means, before the weekend), to try the new version of this ship.

See that's the problem, with this update it essentially did. They didn't need to buff turn rates, only speed to compensate, that would have kept it a completely unique ship. And they should have left the Distro/Power values alone.

One less speed demon meta ship option for the ganker brigades?

I'll take the slight speed nerf in trade for better pitch and heat management.
I like the ship, it's fun to fly and looks great.
I have no issues with the weapon placements, gimbals for the win.

I would have too if they didnt nuke the Capacity draw for boosting.

I haven't been in to test the new setup yet so I can't speak from experience.

My preference would have been to simply reduce the heat. Leave the boost, leave the pitch. It's a racer. Straight line speed.

MAYBE increase the boost cost slightly so it can't permaboost without engineering, double sounds like way to much.
