Mamba - most useless ship as of 3311

I don't think that anyone even considers Scout for anything, while Mamba a straight line racer posing as a combat ship, pretty quirky as well. If only "racing" would bring rewards provided from such playstyle, but it does not. To be honest the last quirky ship ever released.

The mamba handles just fine if you can learn to use the throttle. It's basically a FDL with a better cockpit and the best boost in the game and a tiny really tiny bit less turn rate. It fights it turns it might not orbit as well but there's combat styles that don't need to orbit. Overall it's a perfectly valid option as a combat ship but an upgrade to a class 5 FSD and bigger fuel tank would be appreciated.

I love how the Mamba looks and feel.
Sadly, it is pretty inferior to the Python2 or FdL for combat. At equal skill level against another commander flying one of these, it can't win.

Its only advantage is a generous greater top speed, and a not so greater boost speed.
May be good to run away from the opponent, although high wake is a preferable option that does not rely on speed anyway.

Sure, perfectly fine ship for PvE.

If somebody experienced in PvP can prove me wrong, I am happy to learn and take my Mamba out of the garage where it has been collecting dust...

As far as the Mamba is concerned it has probably the best weapons layout in the game.
What kind of loadout(s)?

Frags? Nope.
With a full frags (overcharged) loadout, a full burst on the Python2 4xC3 + 2xC2 deals up to ~1484 damage (+46%) vs Mamba 3xC3 + 2xC1 of up to ~1014 damage.
And then you need to take into account the super low penetration of 20 for the Mamba's C1 frags that cannot even deal full damage to an Eagle, and not even 1/3 damage to the Python2...

Plasma? Nope.
There is no C1 plasma available, so that is FdL 4xC2 + 1xC4 deals 424.63 damage (+17%) vs Mamba 2xC3 + 1xC4 deals 362.15 damage.
The armor piercing 100 for the C2 plasma, unlike for frags, is super high, so no disadvantage to use C2 vs C3/C4.
As for the efficiency, the smaller the plasma, the higher is the efficiency. FdL needs 30.6 distributor draw per salvo vs Mamba 26.53 (-13%) so on top of a lower damage output, that would not really help much.

Rails? Nope.
There are no C3 rails available, and will never be as per FDev. I will not even do the math here, since it's pretty much pointless.

Then, what is left in favor of the Mamba is its top speed and boost speed.
Comparing my current Python2 build at 409m/s and 551m/s, a similar config of the Mamba is at 485m/s (+18.5%) and 594m/s (+8%).
And the Python2 would then score ~3600 shield and ~2260 hull vs Mamba ~3300 (-9%) shield and ~2180 (-4%) hull.
You could try to make the Mamba ultra light to achieve greater speed (I did initially) of 500m/s and 613m/s, but that would be a slight increase of speed for a huge loss of shield and hull, which is not worth it.

FDev decided to BADLY sacrifice firepower for a slight increase of speed...not really sure why they decided to do that so badly.
I did try, but could not find a valid reason to fly the Mamba, other than it is a pretty ship ;)

I said layout not loadout.

I love that all the weapons are on the same face of the ship and can be fired at the same target unlike say the FdL where the biggest hard point is blocked by your own ship when the other hard points have a clear shot.

I get what you mean but the Fer-De-Lance doesn't have this issue. The Huge Hardpoint can point through and fire through the hull

Really, last time I was out in mine it would not fire if the target was obscured by my ship.

Next time I am back in the bubble I will have to break out the FdLs and test them.
