I put a 4A beam laser and 4 x MCs on my Mamba.
I engineered the beam with G5 Efficient and thermal vent and remote-engineered the MCs with G5 long-range (no XFX) and the MCs cause overheating. [sad]
did the 4A beam have the same effect
2 large thermal vent beams, I would expect to cool any medium ship to frost in seconds. Working as intended I believe.
how the frak does a laser cool down a ship
surely this should be a side effect for projectile weapons if anything (take the heat from the ship by heating the metal projectile slugs!)
IF FD insist on these fantasy side effects i wish they would put a "little" thought into it to just pretend there is science behind it!.
enjoy it while it lasts! G1 large beams thermal vent working far too well when striking a target the heat goes down to 2%, i dont think this is intentional.
i have reported the "bug"
dunno if residual heat could be used to excite the gain medium to amplify the light?
This is very intentional.
It's not a bug and thermal vent was recently buffed.
require materials that don't exist
good to hear. to the point of almost freezing the ship is a bit extreme, but why not. i'm a bit out of touch lately, but could this be a good re-enabler for stealth mechanics, or are these still moot in combat?

Mostly still moot. You can freeze your ship by shooting someone, but you also resolve yourself by shooting them, so you see little benefit in a 1v1.
Can be a bit more useful when fighting groups, as the one you aren't shooting may have difficulty targeting you. It can also pre-cool the ship before a disengagement attempt, giving one more time in silent running (but you cannot benefit from thermal vent if silent running is already engaged).
