Mamba vs Phantom comparison

The Mamba is objesctively worse than most combat ships, poor turn rates, crap convergence, heat issues and meh shields.

I've been flying the Mamba as my main ship and I'm going to call this out as nonsense. If the Mamba were "objectively worse than most combat ships" then the FDL that it was based on would not be the current apex of medium combat ships. The Mamba is not quite comparable to the FDL for combat but it is certainly a competitive alternative, especially for PVE. The poor turn rate is an issue but that's simply a tradeoff for the pure straight-line speed advantage and outstanding acceleration compared to other medium ships. The hardpoints are excellent, convergence is only an issue with fixed weapons and many ships have that issue so you can't judge it only on its suitability for fixed weapons. The Mamba's weapons all being dorsally mounted is actually a major advantage for sustained dps, especially in PVE combat, as you only need to keep the top side of your ship towards your enemy. Heat management is probably the Mamba's biggest weakness but since the Mamba shares the same size PP as the FDL there is generally a good power reserve allowing a good low emissions mods to offset this. Shields are actually good for a medium ship and you have plenty of utility slots for shield boosters, although there is admittedly limited room for SCBs.

Unless you're speaking specifically for PVP combat vs. an FDL you can't really call the Mamba "objectively worse than most combat ships" unless you are considering the FDL to be a sub-par combat ship as well.

Really? Without heatsinks and take no heat dmg?

The phantom is a very cool ship compared to others. You might want to stop using thermal weapons for a bit before firing but otherwise you shouldnt have any issue using SCB.

Same here. I don't have the same level of confidence in the Mamba as I do in the FDL for real PvP, but for our player group practices I have a lot of fun in it. How do you deal with the pitch rate? Even FAoff, the Mamba pitches like one of the big ships.

I've altered my strategy to boost past close enemies head on and use long range weapons to plink away after the turn.

The endless boost + easy 4/1/1 pip management makes this an interesting build for lazy PvPers wanting a fast combat ship that's not a FDL.

After Flying these 2 ships all I can say is...I am disappointed...

The Mamba is Great in a straight line but its sub par Hardpoint placement and flight model kill it for me. The FDL still out classes this ship hands down in my mind

The Phantom...Oh gosh where do i start. It suffers from all the things I hate about the MK2 Hull is bubkis..Shielding is nice.... Its HUGE...its so dang easy to hit. It flys like its brakes are on all the time in FA ON. FA OFF is sub par at best. It boosts slowly and very short. The Hardpoints are now annoying..I liked it on the MK2 because you have that one large filling the middle..but man without it there its GLARING how wide that space is. It seems jumpy in some directions while at the same time its like syrup in others. It is SLIGHTLY faster then the MK2 It makes a Okay shield tank. It also looks pretty dang snazy...but alas...I don't like it for what I wanted to use it for. I wish the Phantom was smaller and more agile then it being a stripped down MK2.

TBH these 2 ships are lookers...but they don't perform to my liking...ATM. They may grow on me but at this point in time they just don't do it for me...

Sorry :(
