When I saw a recent stocklist of animals from Indian zoos (from 2021-2022), posted on the forums by @wanderoo, I decided to do a similar list to that made by @Chuditch about the mammals in Australian zoos (see here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/mammals-kept-in-australian-zoos.620391/). This should help anyone who is building a zoo in India select the species to use, and also look at what is missing from the roster. Because information about reptiles is also included, I have also listed habitat reptile species as well.
Some additional information - I excluded any places that held only a single species. I have included only species that I think are large enough to work as habitat animals (I excluded borderline examples like pygmy and slender lorises and palm squirrels). For reptiles, I decided to stick only to crocodilians, monitor lizards, tortoises and terrestrial iguanas. Next to each species, the first number is the number of zoos holding the species, and the second is the number of individuals held across all those zoos. Bolded animals are ones already in-game.
