Newcomer / Intro Man, this game is harsh on newcomers.

Wow, this game really takes no prisoners does it.

Lost a load of cargo and credits to interdiction spheres (I really am crap at shooting stuff).
So, clean saved and started again, made atrip out of LHS trading some stuff to Eravate. Bought my stuff, undocked, powered up and then suddenly was hit by heat damage of 224%!!

No idea why, so sat there listening to me lose oxygen for 5 mins and had to start again!!!

It tough, so why do I keep going.

Because it's ELITE that's why!!! An the clue is in the title (DANGEROUS)

Here's to my next 1000 credits!!

:D

Have fun Sir!

Get a good power supply, the best you can.

Many want the game to be even more dangerous.

nice attitude OP and i hope this time you get a good start, the game does have a steep learning curve to start but is so worth the effort and then becomes second nature.

Yes it can be very tough at first and I think that most players have these sort of setbacks when starting out, but take heart and keep at it and you will succeed.

As for interdictions, its best not to try to fight as a beginner, the Sidewinder is not that fast, but very manoeuvrable, so there is a good chance that you can follow the escape vector and get away.

If that does not work, throttle off and submit - as soon as you are out of supercruise put 4 pips into the engine (ENG) and throttle up whilst boosting. As soon as your frameshift has cooled engage supercruise to escape.

The heat damage may have been caused by you accidently engaging Silent Running - check your keybindings and locate the Silent Running keypress and set the Button Mode from Toggle to "Hold". That way if you hit the button again it will only remain in silent running while the button is pressed. Some players recommend removing the keybinding altogether.

Cheers

As a noob, I have found keeping a small goose-neck lamp on a side table with pencil & lots of scratch paper very useful.
Keeping copious notes & reviewing them between runs (also necessary for intelligent trading) has helped me learn from my many mistakes.

Welcome to the verse. You'll be surprised how quickly you start to get the hang of things. I've found notes are key. I'm currently on an exploration trip and I keep 2 sets of notes.

1- Quick pen & paper list of the systems I pass through.
2- Word Doc with system name, visual image of the system and any notes of interest in the system.

Elite is kinda weird, its cruel to newcomers but then becomes fairly easy. basically you cant die when you got the principles.

Sounds like you accidentally activated silent running, closing your radiators and cooking yourself.
