Mandalay acquistion query ...

Hi there,

I am out in the black exploring with my Fleet Carrier and the new Mandalay ship sounds nice. If I buy it with ARX ... will it miraculously be sent to my Fleet Carrier using dark magic that would impress Voldemort?

Or would it be sent to a Starbase thousands of light years from where I am?

Cheers Dave

As long as your carrier has a shipyard, an ARX purchased ship can be deployed on it at any time for no extra cost (providing it isn’t already active, but that won’t be an issue here).

The same goes for any other station in the game, afaik.

I don't think you need to outfit your own carrier with a shipyard to deploy pre-built ship you just bought for Arx on it - the "personal" shipyard that allows every player to store ships on their own carrier is enough. (I bought and deployed one on an alt's carrier 16KLY out last night, and I haven't fitted a shipyard on it).

For players using other players' carriers, a shipyard does need to be installed, though.

Edit: Ninja'd!

Duh, I forgot. It’s not exactly something I tend to think about since I bought the thing (probably more than a year ago).

I can confirm that the Mandalay can be deployed to a fleet carrier if purchased with ARX as I have just done this. I have to say that the ship exceeded my expectations by a long shot - the SC Overcharge is so smooth you hardly notice it and it doesn't drink fuel nearly as quickly as other ships does. The jump range is ok but really needs a Guardian FSD booster and some light engineering to get to 60ls which is all I need for exploration. Visibility from cockpit is good, auto landing seems much better at finding spots than I am! in mountain rocky terrain than the ASP or even smaller DB explorer and it seems to be a lot less fussy about terrain that some ships. It handles beautifully - like a DB Explorer (probably better) on the surface which is great for exobiology and it slows down quicky so I haven't managed to overcook a landing... well not yet!. Saying that - shields seems a bit fragile so need to be careful when bumping into the surface...probably need to install a couple of shield boosters for a bit of safety.

A couple of points to note though - The prebuilt explorer build does not come with Super cruise assist (c'mon FD!) and there are no SRV's in the bay and I couldn't restock them so had to swap in a SRV bay from another ship to get it to work - a couple of minor points but easily fixed if you have a few ships on your carrier.

Overall you won't regret buying this ship if you are into exploring and exobiology - its really fixed most of the things I had on my wish list and has really been worth the cost and I am so happy I didn't have to fly back to the bubble to get one!

edit : getting on and off at the front is so nice - doesn't seem like a major change but it really helps.
