Manifesto: Anarchy is Good for All Commanders

Manifesto: Anarchy is Good for All Commanders

The very word "Anarchy" is much maligned, but unjustly so. Within the Elite Dangerous universe, Anarchy systems provide myriad benefits and opportunities for the intrepid and creative Commander. It is the goal of Project DIRE to expound the true nature and benefits of Anarchy. Open your eyes, CMDRs! Stop being sheep; become wise as serpents; rise up and embrace Anarchy!

I. Anarchy is good for Commanders in all game modes.

A. Anarchy is good for the CMDR who plays in Solo mode.

1. Anarchy systems provide Interstellar Factors, which allow the CMDR to pay off bounties on their current ship. This is tremendously useful for any number of reasons.

2. Anarchy systems allow freedom: freedom to practice one's combat skills without repercussions, freedom to harvest materials from NPC ships, freedom to attack opposing factions and manipulate the BGS (background simulation) without risk.

3. Anarchy systems often generate interesting mission types.

B. Anarchy is good for CMDRs who play in Private Groups.

1. Private Groups are often embraced by CMDRs who share common goals; if those goals are BGS manipulation, materials harvesting, or practicing combat in a relatively safe environment, Anarchy systems facilitate all of these objectives.

2. If dueling or other PvP is desired within the Private Group, Anarchy systems provide an arena for this PvP to easily occur without unnecessary Crime and Punishment strings attached.

C. Anarchy is good for CMDRs who play in Open mode.

1. Anarchy systems benefit CMDRs playing in Open mode for all the aforementioned reasons.

2. Anarchy systems have additional benefits to CMDRs playing in Open mode with malicious intent (gankers, griefers, etc.)

3. Anarchy systems have additional defensive benefits for CMDRs who oppose gankers and griefers. Gankers and griefers are often experienced with using the Crime and Punishment system to their own advantage. Often a CMDR will return for some payback after being ganked, only to find that the ganker cleared their bounty and thus attacking that ganker will itself result in a bounty for the innocent CMDR. Anarchy systems eliminate all the red tape of the C&P system. If you need to get revenge, you are free to do so without legal repercussions in an Anarchy system. If you need to put together a posse to hunt down a ganker crew, you can do so without worrying that you all will incur bounties when you do.

II. Anarchy is good for Commanders of all skill levels.

A. Exposure to anarchy systems, especially in Open, will quickly educate new CMDRs on the dangers of the Elite Dangerous universe.

1. This encourages new CMDRs to properly outfit their ships and learn the skills needed to evade or escape interdictions, or become better combat pilots.

a. This strengthens the Elite Dangerous playerbase, making cooperative and competitive gameplay mare engaging for everyone.

b. This prepares new CMDRs and will have lasting benefits even for their gameplay experience in Solo or Private Group modes against NPCs.

c. There will be fewer whiny "OMGZ GANKURZ" threads as more CMDRs realize the actualities of the Elite Dangerous universe. This will annoy PvP or criminal CMDRs much less, especially if they have legitimate reasons for their choice of gameplay style which might seem solely malicious to others who don't understand them.

2. CMDRs will be gently encouraged to utilize the game mode which is truly best for their needs: Solo, Private Group, or Open.

B. Anarchy systems are good for experienced CMDRs.

1. Having safe havens where bounties can be dealt with encourages experienced CMDRs to risk and engage more in non-anarchy systems.

2. More interesting and engaging PvP opportunities can arise in Anarchy systems for those interested in this type of gameplay.

C. Anarchy is good for high-level CMDRs.

1. Many CMDRs feel that after a certain point, Elite Dangerous doesn't offer much by way of real challenge or opportunity.

a. Flipping systems to Anarchy can be a worthy challenge because the Elite Dangerous universe is so heavily weighted against the Anarchy type of government.

b. Fighting for the cause of Anarchy can attract the ire of dedicated anti-Anarchy player groups, providing true and much-needed challenges.

2. Many high-level CMDRs feel that there are few truly challenging encounters to be had after a certain point.

a. Anarchy systems in Open can become a common area for high-level PvP interactions and wing-versus-wing PvP engagements.

b. Anarchy systems in Open can make the Elite Dangerous experience once again exciting and unpredictable.

III. Other great things about Anarchy.

A. Let's face it, the word just sounds really cool. Say it out loud with me: "Anarchy. Anarchy. ANN. ARK. KEY. Anarchy! Anarchy! ANARCHY! ANARCHY 4EVAR!!!!"

B. The coolest people in Elite Dangerous embrace Anarchy.

C. I also really like Anarchy. This may or may not be related to B above.

There you have it, Commanders! I hope that your enlightened mind can see all the wonders of Anarchy.

Spread the word! Live the dream! Become... an Anarchist!

Agree with everything here. It was pretty much the reasons you described that I started supporting anarchy factions.

For me it's the difference between supporting a faction that sets the rules and laws of the system and supporting a faction that allows you to set the rules of what happens in your system.

That's a great way of putting it!

There's also a misconception that Anarchy = bad guys. Not necessarily true. Ever notice how when you take a politician assassination mission, when you drop in on the target, they often monologue about how untouchable and above the law they are?

More and more I'm seeing that Anarchists are true freedom fighters from oppression and injustice.

Even when the anarchists are the bad guys at least when they urinate on your leg they're not telling you it's raining too.

how so?

also, guys, don't forget to bgs in non anarchy systems too! they won't convert to anarchy all by themselves!
As an example, perhaps you don't want players from a known hostile squadron running around in your system doing missions against your faction. If they're clean and it's a lawful faction in control, it's going to be more trouble for you to try to push them out.
