Horizons Manned Turrets & First person walkabouts?

I must say that ED is coming along very nicely, the addition of a fighter bay to larger ships is a very nice feature indeed, i'm also looking forward to exploring my ship at some point when first person is finally introduced, i'm particularly interested in how they will implement changes in the different installed inner compartments of the ship such as the fighter hanger or the passenger cabins.
I imagine that it will be tricky to program changes in the ship interior depending on what modules you have installed but i really hope they do this.

Another thing i would really like to see is the inclusion of player controlled turrets, i remember back in the 1980's playing Elite on my commodore 64 jumping into my rear gunners seat whilst boosting away from Thargoids keeping them at bay giving me time to pick them off one by one as they gave chase.
This is really turning into a superb game, there is still a long way to go to get it right but i really do hope that first person style walking around your ship/station is implemented sooner rather than later with maybe boarding actions a further 6-12 months after. Keep up the good work Frontier and if you folks haven't already tried Elite Dangerous then now is the time too!

See you out there in the Black!

Here's hoping that multicrew will include turret control and similar things. A great game to look at there is "Pulsar: Lost Colony", which does exactly that.

DBOBE talked about walking inside your ship to repell boarding parties, fight fires and the likes. I'd love to get that. Realistically though, I don't see this happening within 2017.

Both of those are IMAO features that—while definitely very nice to have, I am not and never was objecting on that front—would add very little to the game.

When it comes to multi-crew, I'd rather have other people bring their own ships, plus I rarely if ever play with others, so any work on that wouldn't add anything to my game experience. It's a niche and flashy social feature, but the game is geared so heavily for maximising use of your ship with a single pilot that I doubt the advantages of having a second human player twiddling thumbs in a spare seat would add very much. If anything, I'd like if FD made it possible to temporarily be somewhere else, so if you are on the far side of the galaxy, being able to "remote" to someone in the bubble and do some SLF piloting would be sweet. So if that's a thing, bring it on! (I can smell the "but we need transfer times, can't have people play together all willy-nilly" debate already.)

As for walking around, yes, it would "immerse". You could use your onboard space-toilet, float around your ship, and whatnot, but then again, what would it add to gameplay? If you look at The Other Game, people are apparently still spontaneously dropping out of their ships from time to time, and frankly I don't even want to walk from a shabby hotel room to my ship every time I log in. Frontier would have to spend a lot of artist and developer time on designing all the interiors, making sure people don't bounce out of their ships, a proper weighless grappling movement model, etc.

Both are of course dependent on coming to terms with networking at some point, because that still appears to be an ongoing issue for many players.

Seeing your crewmate get smashed into the rear of the cockpit as you press boost: priceless.

The difficulty is to make that position worth something. I think the first thing Frontier will do is to have a second crewmate be able to fly the SLF while the pilot remains in command of the mother vessel. They'll probably also include secondary activities so there's stuff to do for the crewmate outside straight combat. In addition, the additional crewmember needs to be effective enough and provide enough performance benefits to make it worthwhile.
And I agree the networking aspects are probably the biggest challenge with multicrew.

I do hope that we get walking inside ships eventually. I'd love to take a stroll inside an Anaconda, go down to that area below the bridge with the curved panorama window, or even see the cargo racks and other internals in the ship.

Would it add to the game? I think yes, it would - very much like docking inside rotating stations isn't really necessary for the game but I doubt anyone would want ED to not have this iconic feature.

Mannable turrets would be really great. Like in Star Wars! *looks enthusiastic*

That's the thing. It's going to be pretty boring if all you do 90% of the time is sit around waiting for a chance to shoot at something. Maybe they'll include some kind of turret maintenance minigame or turret simulations you can grind for more damage (I hope not)! :D
