Manual limpet deactivation

You can select them and shoot them down
Or you can kill them with your ship - they're not really good at avoiding the mothership or any moving obstacles generally speaking

Or use the right panel and deactivate the module, then reactivate it - it will kill all the limpets controlled by that module.

Not like that i'm opposed in anyway to the suggestion, it would be nice to see it happening, but i dont really think it would.
In the meantime - there are workarounds

Going with my mining T9 after an attached prospector limpet on fast rotating asterois to try to shoot it?? No thanks. i wouold prefer simple deactivation command from the contact panel.

Why would you do that?
Just fire another prospector and it will replace the one attached to the fast rotating asteroid (or any other asteroid or even free flying towards a certain death that will happen when they reach the max distance)

Thats for the new limpet controller.

The “fire new limpet to kill an old limpet” tactic doesn’t work if you’ve maxed out on collector limpets and want to fire off a prospector limpet.

The capability to manually deactivate single limpets would just be an easy fix that avoids having to run through the other options of either killing all limpets with a full-module deactivation or whipping out a weapons load-out during mining operations.

The function is already in-game (seismic charges) and it’d be solid if possible to extend that function over to the MLC’s, especially for anyone sacrificing that 7-slot
