Manual Route Plotting

Imagine this, your player faction controls 5 different systems. You know that by running EDMC and navigating to each system, you can update INARA with that system's faction influence information. Currently, you need to follow the process of jumping into system "A", opening the galaxy map, route to system "B", jump to system "B", open the galaxy map, route to system "C", etc. Wouldn't it be MUCH easier to simply be able plot a route from A, to B, to C, to D, etc. before you take that first jump? Then, each time you jump into a given system, all you need to do is use the keybind for "select next system in route" and make the next jump.

This feature has much wider uses than my simple example. Think of those times when you're trying to navigate to Beagle Point in a Sidewinder on a dare, and you have to manually route around a particularly empty portion of the galaxy. Or, on the road to riches, being able to manually plot a route of up to 20 systems. Or, you are making a trade loop. Or you are visiting all the engineers. Or, you are wanting to travel from The Bubble to Colonia, but have a couple of sight-seeing detours that you want to take along the way. I'm sure that many commanders can come up with thousands of useful examples where this feature would be beneficial, this is just what I can come up with off the top of my head.

Elite Dangerous already has an amazing route-plotting utility. The ability to customize it, such as adding detours, or to simply create your own route with multiple jumps, would take it to the next level of usability.

Just the ability to do a multi-route plot would be exceptionally easy to implement. It does the standard calculation for your A to B, then saves that set of systems and does another calculation for B to C as if you were already in B. Suggestions just dont get easier than that.

I would love for the ability to add waypoints. This seems like such a simple feature to add.

I think the jet cone boost routing isn't aggressive enough when looking for neutron stars. I like to search along the plotted route for interesting things to visit, and I often find neutron stars that should have been included in the route.

This would be awesome. There was a topic on here the other day about how amazingly limited the current route plotter is, how awesome it would be if it could do more things (like calculate a fuel efficient route; and I don't mean the current "shortest possible jump" setting it currently has). There are sites that can do this, and we could make sites that could likely do even more, but act of plotting the next jump after each one (especially in VR) can be a bit much. If we had a way to pre-plot routes or even import plotted routes from an XML file or the like... oh god that would be amazing.

For the vast majority of things in this game outside of exploration, you really don't need a fuel scoop; the ship's router plotter just isn't smart enough to plot you a route that doesn't empty your tank while also not adding 50+ additional jumps to your route. Using a little math to determine to your ships optimal jump range and a website, it's entirely possible. It's just a pain in the butt to utilize right now.

Navigation is part of the fun. I would like a new type of bookmark (a route) that actually is a series of ordered systems/stations. Along with this, the ability to turn individual routes on or off.

Agree 100% with the above; even just being able to put a line on the map for a general course would be helpful when trying to route around stuff or just weave around and see what's out there while keeping in the same general direction of travel.
