I start from the consideration that it is not reasonable that a Core Dynamics ship fits the same components (e.g. class 8 power plant) of a Gutamaya one. It would be like a BMW engine fitting a Toyota Car or vice versa. At the meantime it is unrealistic to outfit a Federal ship inside an imperial station.
For this reason I suggest to introduce manufacturer specific components. It would be preferrable that Federation ships specific components will be only present in systems/stations under Federal control, whereas Empire ship specific components will be present only in systems/stations under imperial control.
This expedient could allow a greater ship characterization level.
Furthermore, the most valuable components should only be accessible with a high level of appreciation from the faction.
