Map improvements in 1.2?

As the galaxy map is such a key component in being able to inform ourselves about the game world I was wondering if we'll be seeing any map improvements in 1.2. The current seperate filter system makes things harder than it needs to be and there are some additional filters that would be nice.

Personally I'd like to see:

  • The ability to filter by more than one criteria, currently looking for lets say 'high tech anarchy' systems or 'Imperial industrial dictatorship' systems requires flicking between the filters and watching for systems appearing and disappearing. If we could combine the filters it would be much more useful.
  • The filters don't work for both the economies, of course this wasn't a problem before when we only had one economy per system but now with many systems having two it's quite limiting. The circular dots for each system could do with having a split down the middle and showing both colours for multi economy systems?
  • Being able to filter for system states would be nice so for example I can find the systems in civil war without having to click randomly around and looking into each system map.
  • It would be nice if the system info on the galaxy map listed the factions that operate in the system so we wouldn't need to keep loading up the system view to find out. Being somehow able to show systems by minor faction would be awesome as sometimes it can be really hard to find where to turn in bounties but I can understand if that's tricky to implement.

And allow us to click on an item in the system map to target it. I'm tired of trying to guess which planet on the system list corresponds to the same planet on the system view.

+1 for this, so many times i wished i could select target from system map

There are some MP aspects that are coming to the Galaxy May, being able to see where your friends are etc... so there is work being done to it. I didn't see any mention of the things you are asking for, but that is not to say that there are not more elements being done to the GM for 1.2.

I would like to see my distance to target. I often go to the galaxy map during Super Cruise, and often overshoot, if I had a distance to target indicator I could leave the map when necessary.

Yes to all the above :)

Galaxy view:
Favourite route list
Add bookmarks
New filters:
- status (boom, lockdown etc.)
- systems I've visited
- systems I've discovered

System map:
Set target destination

Nav tab:
Filters for type (sun, planet, station, belt etc.) and name. Filter on local, FSD-able.
Display faction against station names. Colour code to alliegence.
Make the tree collapsable.

On a separate note, would be great to have a separate bind for 'target ship' vs 'target system entry'. Really annoying when targeting a ship in SC and then unable to cycle back to the station you were originally targeting, having to manually locate it in the nav tab again.

Not sure if it counts but, I'd like to see a way (via hotkey?) to jump to a star in line of sight from the cockpit jump range permitting. To balance it out increase the fsd spin-up by 50% if done this way.

This is what Michael wrote in the dev update at the beginning of this month:

It’s not all about multiplayer though and 1.2 continues our strategy of layering on top of the framework that we have to keep making things better. A simple example of this is adding navigation to the system map, so nav targets can be selected and included in the route planning.

It sure does! I'd like to be able to do that too!

It would also be great if the map could remember the point I was looking at when I exit system view! It's pretty irritating when looking through different systems and it keeps going back to my current location!

My small wish is a setting that shows "I have data for this system." in the galaxy map. A sort of pin on the map that shows "I've been there" for explorers.

Are you sure this isn't there already? The other night I was wondering why I wasn't seeing many colours for the economy types for the stars in the map and it was because I had a filter already applied for allegiance. I had to re-enable the allegiance ones to be able to get all the economy views back.

Being able to 'bookmark' systems would be a massive boon - so you can quickly get back to your 'home' system or some other important location.
Simply remembering the last text that was searched for would be a starting point !

It's bookmarks that are my most wanted map feature although the option to edit the colours of the system icons would be nice.
I mean, agriculture based economies should be green right?

On my monitor it's hard to distinguish extraction from agricultural and high tech from refinery systems. I would like to be able to edit the colors.

Would be nice if the Galaxy Map stored yoyr long-range route and your entire setup both after leaving it or even Exiting the Game
- Economic/Max. Range jumps
- applied Filters
- last viewed System incl. the proper angle/zoom level

I find it highly annoying i.e. making a multi-session tour far out there - but after logging in to find it all reset back to defaults all the time. Have to remember your Destination you picked far out in order to get back the route that looked so appealing.
For resetting back to defaults, I'd prefer a "Reset/Default" Button instead.

Additional Info and respective Filters I'd like :
- Traffic intensity
- Crime intensity
- Systems already Visited
- Systems partially, fully or completely unexplored (by anyone, that is, so I could see which Systems remain to slap a "Discovered First" on - would also help avoid running rundown paths used by thousands already; if you Missed any Objects in a System that way you'd know there's something left you overlooked)
- Favorites with remarks field
- storable Fixed routes (useful for traders running repeated A -> B -> C --> A routes / circles)

Other than that :
- ability to make Group purchases on Cartographics and Trade Data (buy all that within your Sector of i.e. 20LY)
- ability to manually puchase any data at least for civilized Space without the 20LY limitation
- please no more highly incomplete Data purchased for inhabited Systems - waste of Credits AND doesn't make sense

This. Most of his requests are same I would love to see in the Galaxy Map.

Also would like a tool that allows me to measure distance between two given systems. So helpful for planning!!

And definitely we need a way to know in advance if a system has been discovered or not and to what extent. With so many systems, I don't understand this stubborness from FD to make systems availble for exploring more than once. Shouldnt!!
