Map size concerns and in game restrictions

I have watched a few of Best In Slot's videos so far. While the game looks great and Frontier has put a lot of effort into it and this isn't an attempt to diminish the work they have done. I do feel a bit disappointed with some of the map sizes. Especially the JP Chaos Theory map and the Sorna Site B map. Basically the two maps where I would spend most of my time. The JP Nublar map looks pretty small. The JW Nublar map is much bigger. The problem is it has the monorail. The JP Nublar map looks even smaller than the Nublar 93 map from the RTJP DLC from the first game.

The other maps look good. But still some of them are on the small side. I understand size was probably used to add more challenge as were natural obstacles and so on. Like the US Southwest map which has all these very narrow area's and paths in it. I think the development team kind of over did it with the design of this map and the natural restrictions. It's just a bit much.

Also Best In Slot says that there are some really good maps in the campaign. But we don't have access to them in the sand box mode. This doesn't make sense and it's a shame that we have to resort to begging to have access to maps in a game we purchased. It's sandbox mode, we should have all the maps. We shouldn't have to ask to have access to maps that are in the game just in a different mode.

Also some of maps are only unlocked for sandbox by playing certain parts of the game. This is more of annoyance to someone like me cause I don't have all day to sit around and play the game to unlock things. I am certainly not a YouTuber who has all day to sit around and play games. I have real life adult stuff I have to do. So having to unlock things in a game I purchased is a bit annoying. Everything should be free to use in Sandbox mode with no need to unlock things. I understand why it was done, but it's still something I really dislike.

The sizes really concern me too they are not really that much bigger and there are many maps with those annoying restrictons like in jwe1 the big mountain in the middle of the sorna map for example like i said in another post nublar 93 from jwe 1 still seem to be the biggest map

Yeah I am bit disappointed with the map size for the JP version of Nublar and the Isla Sorna map. They aren't as big as I hoped they would be. At least it seems that way. Though BIS did his best to try and talk up the sizes of the maps.

I think map sizes tend to be way overblown. The new and returning buildings appear to have a smaller footprint than before, terrain constraints though present also seem less fickle than before. Generally speaking, I think we should wait a solid couple of weeks after release for us to all play hands on first. Camera perspective and secondhand accounts from Youtubers can be deceiving.

I think it will really help to get our hands on it and start building out for ourselves, then comparing to what we did in JWE1. As someone who preffers the national park feel over the city zoo, I suspect no size will ever truly be enough, but it does seem like except for the desert canyon we will be getting more jungle for the jeep to get lost in.

I have a feeling that the camera angle isn't really effecting the size. I think they just aren't that big. Not nearly as big as some of us hoped. The JP Chaos Theory version of Nublar looks pretty small. So does the Sorna map for the JP3 scenario.

I did like how Best In Slot kept trying to talk up the sizes though. Maybe it's just me and I had some unrealistic expectations, but I doubt it. Someone, probably a French player commented on the performance of the game on consoles and said the bigger maps are causing poor performance on the older consoles.

Also Best In Slot said there are some good maps in the campaign and we don't have access to them in Sand Box. I think Frontier could fix this before release or just after. It's just disappointing that we have to tell them again that we want to play on the campaign maps, at least the medium and large ones. I watched the campaign video uploaded by BIS and the starting map was pretty small. But I am sure someone will want it. lol

as a pc gamer I don't care for map size.
The great modding community will remove the borders and give us the ability to flatten everything like in JWE1 and this time it should be much earlier out, cause the game is so so identical to part1

Same, but it's still a damn shame we have to resort to that in the first place. The maps should be big enough from the start and it shouldn't be on the modders to fix it, espeically since it's one of the big selling points they kept talking about "the much bigger maps" etc. And now we're sitting here looking at maps that are barely bigger then the ones in the first game, if at all and still have a ton of weird borders and stupid tiny hills in the middle of the map that we have to build around.

Is one big, flat square or round map where we can build however we want on really that much to ask for? No weird hills getting in the way and no oddly shaped boarders dictating which shape our parks have to take to fit into the given buildable area.

It shouldn't be to much to ask for.
But I think the map designers are some kind of creative people and their brains works another way than ours ;)

I advise you to play first and challenge you to fill the big maps up :) they are of course not Planet Zoo size but much bigger than Jwe the video dont do it justice. Play it by yourself. Just see when he places that tower on the beach on the germany map to get a feel for its size and thats only the beach. Really play it first. I would be surprised if its too small for any builds. Oh and good morning finally Saturday🙂

The German map is fine. My main concern is the JP Chaos Theory map and the JP3 Chaos Theory Sorna map. The JP Nublar map should be just as big as the JW Chaos Theory map. The Chaos Theory map for JW looks great.

I will probably be using mods then. At least a mod that allows me to build in more of the map or whatever. I think certain small maps are once again a limitation brought on by consoles. With all the new AI and animations it must be pushing the APU's in the consoles hard. They can't keep up and make large parks.

No the base consoles run terrible and on much lower settings then the other versions. Your point makes no sense s fully build 2015 Nublar will bring down any pc ad usual in these games. They are not limiting 900 dinosaurs brought my 5900 to its knees 😂 in Jwe 1.

Ps 5 and Series X are fine and much faster than most Pcs out there by far actually. Its insane what you get for only 399/499. Pc Gaming is facing dark ages in the next years due to the high prices it will become luxury like 20 years ago. :) Low end mid gamer will all buy consoles which is almost the whole market especially in 3rd world countries. When entry level gous are 400 msrp which is already 2.5times to much and in reality up to 1000 bucks. It will go downhill fast. It was a good spike but what comes after that is complete stagnation also with new techs like RT. Consoles will be the baselines as usual but now even much more. Until streaming is good enough to completely wipe out dedicated hardware thats the future.

I watched a video by Evolution Square this morning and she has had the game for a week or so and even she says the map sizes aren't what we were hoping for. "Barely larger than some of the maps from the first game" is what she said about a lot of them. Given how much time she spent with the first game I imagine she knows what she is talking about. She has had the game for a week or maybe more.

Now I don't completely agree with her because I like said some of the maps do seem bigger. Just the JP chaos theory map and the JP3 Sorna chaos theory map seem smaller than the other bigger maps. It makes no sense at all. I don't like having to use mods cause they come with their own problems, like breaking every time a developer wants to update their game so you need to wait for the mod maker to update their mod. Given enough time the mods could be abandoned and left completely useless. Just look at what happened to GTA 4 years ago when Rockstar updated that game after nearly a decade or so and it broke all the mods and they won't work now. Then you have the even more recent case with Fallout 3 where Bethesda updated the game tp remove Games For Windows Live and all the mods for that game can't be used unless the mod makers update their mods and that game is 13 years old. Some of the mods for that game are nearly as old as the game itself and have been abandoned.

I would rather support professional work by developers than mess around with mods made by amateurs that could possibly not work at all. But I guess with this game I will have no choice. Cause some of the maps seem like they don't even come close to the 30% bigger that Frontier promised. It's disappointing cause everything else so far looks really good. Sure some things need some tweaking and some stuff can be fixed with patches later on. Maybe they can do something about some of the maps. But right now it's a bit of a let down.

Instead of bigger maps, we got more boring pointless micromanagement and triceratops that knock each other unconcious every 2 minutes.

Yay!

I feel like I wasted my money with this garbage.
