But as I commented there I think there's a fairly easy way to implement it. As it stands we cannot route beyond 1000 light years which means we have to create a somewhat hackish way to get to exploration destinations. I like to set bookmarks at around the 1k mark and target those and delete them as I pass them.
What if along with plot route, we could plot a deferred route. It could be anywhere in the galaxy, but the route plotting would only calculate 100-200 ly at a time, and during hyperspace travel it extends the route, maybe it shows you a 200 ly route, then when you've crossed 100 ly it plots the next 100 ly, effectively keeping you in the middle of your plotted route until you approach the end.
Maybe the 1k limit will be removed when waypoints come in 2.2, but if it remains please consider this suggestion.
