Newcomer / Intro Map Symbols

I have notice on the Galactic map that some stars have grteen triangles and some have blue diamonds...
Can anyone tell me what these symbols signify?

I think you are describing the PowerPlay map, not that I completely understand it myself. If I have figured this out properly that is showing which factions are in control and where.

From here you can select a specific commodity from the left-hand panel, then view which
systems are importing (blue diamonds) and exporting it (green triangles) within 40ly of your
current location. A white diamond indicates that you have trade data for the system, but the
selected commodity is not being traded.
