The Gallipolis
An area rich in nebulae and stars, a fantastic site to see for those travelling down the Galactic Highway as it lies on the south eastern edge of the core. Check edsm.net and you will see many nebula and planetary nebula listed.
However, if you filter those out you will see little there, and a closer look at the nebula descriptions will reveal that most just say 'one of the Gallipolis' (except from a line of planetary nebula on the eastern side which seems to be well documented). Now, I'm by no means blaming the Galactic Mapping project for this, it's just this area need surveying.
So this is what this thread is about, surveying one of the most promising areas of the Milky Way for the benefit of the galactic community. I'm currently out by the Monkey Head nebula so it may take a few weeks to reach the area, but when I reach there I intend to hop between the nebulae, having a good look at the stars in and around each one, whilst also observing the surrounding region, before doubling back on myself. If anyone wants to help out you are more than welcome, this isn't some private venture because anything I find (or update) will be submitted to the Galactic Mapping Project anyhow. Furthermore, there is no set start or end date, especially end because I doubt we'll discover everything
.
I can't wait for this to be the moment they tell me the area just hasn't been updated yet, there will be egg on my face then
