Well, as explained there is a substantial upgrade coming in March which is coded the "Wings" update which will facilitate co-operative play.

There's also talk of future plans to have multiplayer on the same ship. But that kind of thinking is probably a long way off.

You could create your own group rather than trying to get into the same instance in Open play?

As has been said, the next update with Wings will allow you to group together in Open play. For the time being try the Group option.

Those are the kinds of ideas that spark marital conflicts and result in the dual-piloted ship being destroyed, while the husband is left with the duty to run out and get a dozen roses to smooth things over! Stick to a wing formation, and husband/wife flies his/her own ship...
