Mascot Posters

I'm making some mascot posters and trying to match the ones that come in the base game and I'm getting a weird thing thats happening with the colors. The black vignette is getting distorted and I don't know how to fix it. I've tried different filters, different darknesses, and different image files. Is this just how the game displays the images on a billboard?

You can see the fringe effect on Amelie's poster on the far right. The purple gets all weird and it's not a smooth dark-to-light transition like the posters in the game.
If anybody has any ideas, let me know. I'm all out. :\

All the art I have done for ingame I usually knock down the level of detail and such. The game seems to use 8 bit images so there is less color information which causes the weirdness. Look at the provided images and you'll see how the ones like Tikichiki have feathering on the gradient.

It's a lot like in the days of yore when we had to make our images as small as possible so they'd load on Netscape over Compuserve.

I tried lowering the color depth down to 8 bit and it just looks terrible x: What resolution/color profile do you use for billboards?

I have never done billboards, actually. I just do art for the frames and curtains. Though, inspired by your project I may make a billboard for my personal park mascot, the winged eye guy.

Anyway...

You may have to just completely rethink how you are doing these. Start from scratch on anything that isn't working at that depth and remember that you want to limit the number of colors. If it's all shades of pink like on MissyGood you have more pink shades to play with, Tikichiki goes with oranges. Try to stay within the same color families as much as possible so you can get a better gradient. Think the way black and white images are composed for the backgrounds , but do them with color then adding the foreground stuff. Trying to do photo realistic images at that depth is a losing prospect. So pick a color theme for each poster and work with that as much as possible. Look at all the provided ones and really study how they use color.

I don't have time to try and do one right now though or I'd be able to give more advice.

Although Im not exactly sure how to help with your problem, heres a collection of billboard images I have... I dont think that 8bit coloring is going to help, try lowering your resolution might be a better solution. What software are you using? You should upload a few of your images, not just the in-game screenshot, that way we can see what your working with [up]
