Massacre mission design

Frustration. That's the feeling these things give me. Kill 72 pirates, ok. The mission USS spawns a random basket of ships that include maybe 1 or 2 actual targets. Umm ok? If the game spawns a USS for my mission, why are there so many randos just chilling there ? Alright I will deal with it. I clear out the USS. Back to SC and see another mission USS... 40,000 Ls away. Greaaaaat. I fly there. Has like a dozen ships, 3 mission targets. One of the mission targets jumps out right away. Kill my 2 targets, back to SC. Next USS, 35,000 LS. Away..... who's idea was this?

It usually gives them pretty close to the main star orbit for me. The game must not like you

I've experienced the same thing. These missions are a total joke. They used to be fun when you could expect a decent amount of targets to spawn in SC but now all you see are the Mission USS with crappy targets.
I used to stack a wing mission with 2 or 3 singles and it would cause the targets to spawn at a higher rate. As the Wing mission had a time of several days I could do this over a few days stacking singles until the wing mission completed. That is all borked up now. I never see any missions targets in SC, at least thet is my experience lately.

I don't know what the deal is here. It seems Fdev have this distain for engaging NPC combat. CZ are a waste of time IMO. I've said it before, war is faught like it is 1850, let's meet on the battle field and slug it out. But that is a whole 'nother thread!
Bounty Hunting is MEH and barely profitable.
It is like they are pushing everyone to be miners, haulers and explorers.
Seems the PVPers are the only ones finding engaging combat.

It seems to be a symptom of this game. Of all the missions offered I do maybe 1/3 because the rest are just stupid or a waste of time or what seems to me an effort to sucker me into getting a bounty. Again whole 'nother thread.

But I'm rambling, FDEV, I asked to have these fixed before because they used to be one of my favorite missions. If this is your idea of a fix, well, you failed misserably. (not that your even listening)

And I still love the game, warts and all!

They're bad. They have been bad for years.

FD thinks that grinding to kill 72 ships is A+ gameplay.
 
My favorite part about Massacre Missions are the Rewards.

"Cmdr would you like to assassinate 1 target for 2 million credits, or hunt down 75 targets for 9 million credits?"

The assassination targets that go for million+ are usually always Elite and possibly engineered. the 75 targets you kill could all be harmless if you wanted them to be.

Nah, million+ start at Dangerous in non-engineered FDLs. Once you get close to 2 million you start getting nothing but Corvettes. I do a lot of Assassination Missions and, as far as I can tell, none have been engineered. If they were, it doesn't stop me from taking a couple simultaneously in a hull tank DBS. So the engineering can't be that great.

I doubt youd notice the difference of engineered/non-engineered NPC if pretty much all you do is combat.

Maybe. But I have a feeling their durability, at a minimum, would be noticeably boosted if so. Which I don't notice as being any different from ships at a RES.

Regardless, the Rewards for Massacre Missions are not commiserate with the time required. I wouldn't take Massacre Missions with the current Reward offering even if they were shieldless planted Sidewinders scattered across a system.

Also I forgot to mention before also its more then likely if you are accepting massacre missions there is a conflict zone going on. Unless its for pirates.

It is highly dependent on the layout of the system you're in. If everything in the target system is within 1,000Ls, worst you might see is 4,000Ls or thereabouts. If everything is within a 60,000Ls radius, expect up to 200k Ls away.
 
I only accept massacre missions if the system has a high or hazardous res site.
I must be lucky, I stacked five massacre missions yesterday from different factions.
Made 114 million (including the usual bounties) in just over an hour.
 
Lately I've been getting non-wing massacre missions for 17 mil to kill 30 ships. The target system has RES so I can usually get them done pretty quickly, depending on spawn rate.

I haven't noticed but do the kills count for multiple missions if you stack missions for the same target from different factions?
