Horizons Massacre missions finding your target

OK I have only found half my targets less than 20 hrs to go. I've been flying around the system in question looking for smugglers and interdicting them. Very long time in between. I tried looking in the Nav beacon no joy. Does one look somewhere for them or do you just fly around the system at random like I am scanning every ship you can. I've also tried convoy and weapons fire signals still no joy. Any tips would be appreciated.

TIA

Most of us mostly do these for a faction that is in war/civil war so then there is no shortage of enemy ships at a conflict zone.

Massacre missions are in conflict zones. Kill pirate, etc. missions are something else - don't waste your time with them unless you like solving difficult puzzles.

This was a massacre mission but to massacre smugglers. It looked like an easy way to make over 1 million by killing only 12 smugglers. I could only find 7 out of 12.

Smugglers must be part of the faction name rather than meaning that they're smugglers. AFAIK all massacre mission targets are in CZs, though you can sometimes find them between the station and the CZ.

The missions to kill smugglers are normally called naval strike missions or something like that.

Got it done. Now I know why it gave me two days. That how long it took flying around the system looking for mission targets.

Finding those smugglers / pirates.

I ran into this problem after accepting the first "Naval strike on smugglers"-mission.
Couldn't find those guys anywhere in the system.
I spent a couple of hours on every RES site and USS and on the beacon, killed all wanted targets I could get my hands on, but the target counter remained 0/4.
I tried to Google it out, but couldn't find an answer, that would have given any results.
Then, by pure coincidence as I was in supercruise to a station to rethink my strategy, I accidentally targeted a ship insted of an unknown signal.
Description spelled the pilots name, his status as "wanted" and on the last line: "Mission target"! Yayy!
So I got an interdictor and off I go wasting those mission targets.

So, here's how it works (at least did for me in ver. 2.4.03):

- Get and interdictor.
- Supercruise around the mission-specified system.
- Once you find one that is flagged "WANTED" and "MISSION TARGET", go on and interdict and kill.
- Repeat until you got the required amount of them.
- Make sure the target is labelled "WANTED" also, so you won't get tagged as wanted yourself!! Not all of them are.
- If there are no more targets in sys after a kill, try dropping out of SC and back in again / jumping to another sys / logging, in order to retrigger the target spawn. (Just dropping out of SC did it for me).

I wrote this post, because I couldn't find an answer that would've worked for me earlier.
Hope this helps someone.

Cheers.

I have only done one massacre mission in my 2 years.
I went to the required system and scanned. The mission giver said something about a problem and I'd have to find the targets the old fashioned way.
I flew between the star and a station, scanning a few ships here and there. Most were wanted, but I ignored those (except for the ones that interdicted me)
When a target was wanted as well as mission target then it was game on. 12 targets and the station re-armed me from time to time.

Yesterday my mission board had a 3+ mil cr massacre mission. 97 targets! No way!

I think the instructions say you should equip your ship with an interdictor.

Another way to attract mission targets is to carry a few tons of cargo. Trouble is they sometimes intercept you in wings, which is not very productive !

Only take massicre missions where targets are in already mapped systems with res sources from allied factions. Being an ally gives more reward for fewer ships and res always has mission targets. Any other method is just wasted time.
