I have been doing some massacre missions [kill X number or pirates] and I have noticed a weird situation where kills don't get counted. I haven't been playing ED very long so I don't know if this is a known thing.
If I come across a wing made up of targets (correct faction and it says mission target) and interdict one of them, the others in the wing will drop in but the only kill that counts towards the mission is the one I interdicted.
The others, despite being wanted and the correct faction and displaying "mission target" in super cruise lose the "mission target" status when they drop in on their wingmate. Although they remain wanted and of the correct target faction they still don't count.
It's frustrating to inderdict a wing of three, kill them all but only have one count towards the mission.
