Fiction massive plot hole found.

So , elite dangerous around the time of 2.0 claims that phedka was founded by the acients of mumu... yet thats not the case is it?
No , in elite 2 it claimed that it was ''opened up by three major corporations simultaneously''

Did you make a plot hole just to put in a reference to a book? (the illuminatus) or am I missing something here.

I have yet to read every elite book , but I will but I am starting to get disenchanted with the lore as it going more in the elite 1 direction rather than the grim grit that FFE and elite 2 had.

I feel that elite has 2 tones , one goofy that only is a reality in system descriptions and is not represented in game at all , and the other that is shown in books , the gameplay and the voice acting being realistic.
Maybe I am stupid but its making me enjoy the game less , this is not helped by some systems being awesome in lore whiles others being ''the only chip shop for 37 light years'' I mean why? why would the federation of pilots put that on a official map? its funny , yeah but it just pulls you out of the game so much

Could a dev enlighten me on this topic , is it a retcon , or is just that elite dangerous is a reboot now?

This is unlikely to be anything to do with the official authors. We took the various lore elements very seriously and did not insert jokey commentary into systems descriptions. You'll need to check with FDev themselves.

I'll be very disappointed to find that a system has been inserted with the description "The only chip shop for 37 light years." That is an appalling misuse of the game universe. Do you have the system name so I can verify for myself?

Cheers,

Drew.

Here are a few examples :
Saffron : Last chip shop for 37 light years.

B’Titus : The end of the universe, or so the tone deaf inhabitants thought. They’ve
turned this system into what they consider the party capital, celebrating
each new day with a song and a jig. Visitors are routinely issued with
earplugs to drown out the screeching.

Agartha :This system is famous for the exclusive brand of 'Braben Woollens' that
are spun by the fair hand of lovely maidens from only the finest wool of
genetically engineered sheep.
"Feel warm with natural wool." (okay that did make me smile , but it still is a tad bit silly)

Frog :Named by mistake, this system is well known for its cybernetics (made me smile , but its silly)

LTT 11159 :It's got a sun and planets and rock. A quiet, unassuming system – maybe a
nice place for a nap.

And then there is another one , but its more of a minor issue were a planet in the system LTT 15493 was said to be molten but in game its just an rock world.
There are some more , and some ones that have been injected due to player factions that have a religion based around Brühwursts and so on.

I have tried to contact FD but and even sent bug reports about some of the issues(like missing planets in some systems) but so far its been fruitless.

Some other lore issues come in the form of some of the USS we can find , such as convoys just flying for ages without using FSD , I could be wrong of course but I understood that nearly everyone used FSD.
And a lot of the NPC text is very silly , asking questions about turning ''left'' at the next star... something you cant do in space

The Justified Ancients of Mumu were first referenced in the Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson and another Robert in the 1960's

Regarding silly lore... has everyone forgotten about the edible poets? The original Elite universe was littered with them.

The other aspect is that Elites scope is so big, it can encompass a whole spectrum of lore and content, from the absurd to the deadly serious.

I imagine ED lore as the same as 2000ADs Judge Dredd Mega City 1: its post apocalyptic dystopian, but its capable of supporting comedy as well as hard topics such as slavery and justice.

I like to write silly stories sometimes just to break the tone- so far there are stories about Mahons brand of wristwatch, space crabs, celebrity chefs (eventually being sued), motorway service station franchises, along with bobblehead explosives and cameras while simultaneously publishing articles on war, refugees, slavery etc.

Personal opinion:

ED to me is like a melting pot of British cultural and sci fi references that make people feel fuzzy when they see them. Loose drive plates, golden lands of opportunity, azure milk etc. Plus, what about the silly commander names? If they do not spoil your enjoyment, why should a chip shop?

They're not! It's another name for a 90's pop group called the KLF....

Sorry for necro thread revival!

All aboard!

I must admit, I find the occasional silly comment quite nice, gives the galaxy a kind of Hitchhicker's feel.

It gives the impression that the people writing the travel guide got a little bored.

I think that might be the idea actualy.
It turns out its not a plot hole anyway as ED is a semi reboot.
